Florida Gators Land Former Oregon Defender From The Transfer Portal
Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

The Florida Gators have been hemorrhaging players in the first couple of weeks of the offseason. Head coach Billy Napier has been under fire for not being able to keep talent in the building. However, while the transfer portal gives and takes away and this time, the Gators are on the receiving side of a great player. Former Oregon defender Trikweze Bridges has committed to Florida for 2024.

Florida Gators Land DB Trikweze Bridges

Bridges saw his role diminish with the Ducks which is likely the reason he decided to transfer. In his four years with Oregon, he totaled 91 tackles, eight pass deflections, four interceptions, and two forced fumbles. Bridges is the third member of Florida’s incoming transfer class. They need to replenish the talent as they have lost a whopping 16 players to the portal.

2024 Outlook

Florida is going to have a tough road in 2024. The first half of the year has lots of winnable games and having quarterback Graham Mertz back is a positive for the offense. However, the last five games of the season after their bye week are about as tough as you will see. In consecutive weeks they play Georgia, Texas, LSU, Ole Miss, and Florida State. That is an absolutely brutal draw but if Florida is going to get back atop the SEC, they will have to go through the elite teams. The only good news is the team gets the first half of the season to work out the kinks before that run.

The Florida Gators still have lots of holes to fill but this is a step in the right direction.
