Former Ohio State player arrested on serious charge the night before the Buckeyes’ big win over Texas

A former Ohio State player was arrested on Saturday morning, the same day that the Buckeyes took down the No. 1 Texas Longhorns.

According to court records, former Ohio State long snapper Roen McCullough was arrested on a charge of strangulation and booked into Franklin County Jail at 12:50 a.m. ET. on Saturday morning. McCullough is accused of allegedly strangling and assaulting his girlfriend, according to records.

McCullough spent three seasons with the Ohio State football program before medically retiring due to a shoulder injury and a heart condition. McCullough is a native of Columbus, Ohio and went to Worthington Kilbourne High School.

After joining the team as a walk-on, he was once expected to succeed his brother Liam as the Buckeyes’ long snapper. That never happened, as McCullough never appeared in a game for Ohio State. Before leaving the program, he had transitioned to linebacker and even made his mark at the position during the 2021 spring game.

Roen’s brother, Liam, has been the long snapper for the Atlanta Falcons since 2022. According to Roen’s LinkedIn profile, he currently serves as Chief of Staff for Vessell, a venture investment firm in the Midwest.
