Former LSU Tigers wide receiver Kyren Lacy died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his car at age 24 on April 12, according to an ESPN report.

Lacy played two seasons for the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns from 2020-21 before transferring to LSU in 2022. He played three seasons with the Tigers and amassed 866 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in his senior season.

By the end of his three-season career at LSU, Lacey had scored 16 touchdowns and collected 1,692 receiving yards. He was expected to begin preparation for the NFL combine but did not receive an invitation because of legal trouble resulting from a fatal car accident on Dec. 17.

He turned himself in to authorities on Jan. 13 and was released on bail prior to his death, per another ESPN report. Following Lacy’s passing, his mother expressed great emotion in a tribute to her son Saturday.

“This pain is unbearable,” she wrote in the caption of an Instagram post showing her son with angel wings. “Jesus. I miss my baby so much. Everything reminds me of you. I love you son.”

Lacy’s mother continued, “If I had my way, I would have never shared you with my world. But your talent, love for others, and humbleness made the world notice your light.”

She ended her message by expressing how much she loves him.

“It’s still us against the world always,” she concluded. “Momma love you Kyren Lacey. .”

Former teammate and Tigers starting quarterback Garrett Nussmeier expressed his emotions for Kyren Lacy in the comment section of his mother’s post.

“❤️❤️,” Nussmeier commented.

The 23-year-old played alongside Lacy in 2024 to lead the Tigers to a 9-4 record and is expected to be the starter again this season.
