Heisman Trophy Odds See Massive Shift After Arch Manning Performance Against Ohio State

Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning held the top spot in the Heisman Trophy odds heading into Saturday's Week 1 matchup against Ohio State. But the odds have undergone a massive shift on Sunday after the third-year signal-caller's performance against the Buckeyes.

The Las Vegas oddsmakers were quick to adjust their numbers following Texas' 14-7 loss in Columbus. Now, Manning isn't even in the top five to win college football's most prestigious award.

The former No. 1 overall recruit in the 2023 class started the day of Week 1 matchups with +650 odds to win the Heisman Trophy. Now, he sits at +1800, according to ESPN BET.

Manning, the son of Cooper Manning and nephew of Eli and Peyton Manning, completed 17 of 30 passes on Saturday for 170 yards and a touchdown. He threw one interception and took one sack while rushing for 38 yards on 10 carries.

Manning's wasn't the only stock to take a hit after notching a Week 1 loss. Clemson Tigers star quarterback Cade Klubnik trailed Manning in the odds entering the first Saturday of college football action, though he remained a favorite going into a prime-time matchup against the LSU Tigers. Klubnik and the Tigers lost to LSU 17-10 despite playing with the home-field advantage.

Taking over the top spot in the Heisman Trophy odds after the first Saturday of play was LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. While Klubnik completed just 50% of his 38 attempts, Nussmeier went 28-for-38 (73.7%) and kept the ball out of his opponents' hands. The Clemson QB threw an interception in the third quarter, though Brian Kelly's Tigers didn't capitalize on the big play, instead missing a field goal on the ensuing drive.

There are more games to keep an eye on that could impact the Heisman trophy odds before the Labor Day weekend is over. South Carolina and quarterback LaNorris Sellers face Virginia Tech on Sunday afternoon, and Carson Beck's Hurricanes take on Notre Dame on Sunday night.
