HOF WR Jerry Rice reveals how he humbles his son, who is about to enter NFL

Being the son of one of the greatest athletes of all time can bring a lot of high expectations. USC WR Brenden Rice, the son of Hall of Fame WR Jerry Rice, knows exactly how that feels.

However, his dad revealed he still needs some humbling from time to time.

"He's always bragging, he's always telling me, 'Hey dad, I'm bigger than you. I'm faster than you,'" Jerry Rice told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. "So, I somehow have to bring him back down to earth, and I'll say something about all my records and stuff like that. Until you break all of my records, you can't talk that way to me."

Jerry Rice, a three-time Super Bowl champion and 13-time Pro Bowler, finished his career with the most receptions (1,549), receiving yards (22,895) and receiving touchdowns (197) in NFL history.

Brenden Rice certainly has big shoes to follow. But for now, he is only focused on taking part in the 2024 Senior Bowl this week with the hopes of raising his NFL Draft stock come April.

He ranks as Pro Football Focus' 15th-best wide receiver and No. 65 overall prospect on its big board after posting 45 receptions for 791 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns in 2023.

Although his dad is primarily attending the Senior Bowl practices to support his son, he's still using his platform to explain to the NFL what makes the 21-year-old special.

"Very physical off the line of scrimmage ... then also his route running and getting separation where he can catch the ball," Rice added. "Overall, a hard worker and he loves the game of football and he's going to give everything out on the football field."

Several NFL teams are likely interested in taking a shot on Rice just for his family name. But a strong performance at the Senior Bowl on Saturday, Feb. 3 will only further cement that.
