Penalties continue to plague Alabama football and Kalen DeBoer in year two.
The Crimson Tide were penalized eight times for 70 yards against the Seminoles. These deficiencies were something that derailed the success of the Tide in many games a season ago. On Saturday, this trend reared its head again as Alabama’s mistakes allowed Florida State the luxury of extending drives against their defense, while also stalling them offensively.
DeBoer addressed this area of concern when meeting with reporters on Monday.
“There’s a lot of consequences that go along with that, especially the foolish penalties,” DeBoer said. “You know, the ones that happen after the whistle and things like that. So, that will continue to be the case, there’s just gotta be better judgment when we get in those spots. And you know that the quarterbacks going to be protected and you can’t live in the grey-area. And all offseason that was a point of emphasis and we can’t afford to have every guy have his one off time to where it’s like ‘okay, that was his mistake, or next game it’s a different guy. We’ve gotta learn and understand that. We’ve talked about from what we see in other games that happened around college football, the NFL, weather it was out of season or the week 0 games. So it’s certainly addressed and now the guys just gotta do it. And when they don’t it and make those mistakes then there’s consequences that we’ve had and already dealt with going into this week.”
DeBoer and Alabama football will hope to turn this trend in their favor as they look to clean up their act in preparation for their home opener against the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks on Saturday.
