King of Props: Isaiah can deliver a profit

Due to the transfer portal and position reassignments, finding familiar names in new spots has become commonplace across the college football landscape. While it’s no surprise to see quarterback Tommy DeVito wearing an orange helmet, the decal on the side of it is now an Illinois “I” instead of a Syracuse “S.” When he drops back to pass in today’s home game against Purdue, he’ll be looking for a target who formerly played his position for the Illini — and we’re backing that connection as our top prop:

The bet: Over 47½ receiving yards for Illinois wide receiver Isaiah Williams (DraftKings)

Like his same-named predecessor with the moniker “Juice,” Williams began his career in Champaign as a quarterback. But after playing in 10 games over two seasons, he transitioned to wideout in 2021 and has flourished this fall, ranking second in the Big Ten with 61 receptions.

Keeping this line manageable is the lack of passing prowess shown in a 9-6 win over Iowa a month ago. DeVito exited in the first quarter after suffering a leg injury, and Williams finished with three catches for minus-7 yards. But he has easily exceeded this number in the three games since, posting progressively higher totals of 62, 93, and 98.

Although Illinois boasts the country’s leading rusher in Chase Brown, Purdue is more vulnerable through the air, allowing 237 passing yards per game. It will be a priority to get the ball to the elusive Williams, who turned a short completion into a 60-yard touchdown last week.
