Major recruiting analyst picks Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes to steal a commitment away from the ACC following a big move

The Ohio State Buckeyes have most of their work done for the class of 2026, which is currently ranked No. 9 by 247Sports. Ohio State has missed on a number of prospects over the past few months, pushing them out of contention for a top-five class. The Buckeyes hold 21 commitments but aren’t finished yet.

“We’re still going to re-evaluate probably 300 players,” general manager Mark Pantoni said during the first week of fall camp. “We always want to try to uncover a couple guys. But the volume of guys we watch is not going to change. I think we are in a normal spot at the end of the summer.”

Ohio State predicted to flip NC State offensive line commit

As Pantoni mentioned, the Buckeyes are reevaluating players on their board to track their development, and it appears they’ve identified an in-state prospect they want to add to the class. Ohio State offered Mentor (OH) three-star offensive tackle Landry Brede on Sept. 6, after he committed to NC State in late June. Brede will visit Columbus for the night game against Ohio, and the Buckeyes seem to be in a strong position.

Greg Smith of Rivals has predicted that Ohio State will flip Brede’s commitment from NC State, which would give the Buckeyes their 22nd pledge in the class. Brede is a 6-foot-5, 280-pound offensive lineman with the versatility to play multiple positions. Sam Greer is the headliner at tackle, while Max Riley projects as a guard. Aaron Thomas joins Greer as the only other true tackle currently committed, so pursuing Brede makes sense.

This weekend’s trip will be an unofficial visit for Brede, but it could be all the Buckeyes need to seal the flip. According to the 247Sports Composite, Brede is ranked No. 940 overall and No. 80 among offensive tackles in the class. Still, this is a case where rankings don’t tell the whole story, as Ohio State clearly sees developmental upside worth investing in. Don’t be surprised if Brede flips Saturday night or shortly thereafter.
