College football quarterbacks McKenzie Milton and D'Eriq King have teamed up as co-founders of a NIL-based platform, ESPN's Andrea Adelson reported on Wednesday.
Milton (Florida State) and King (Miami) have signed as co-founders of Dreamfield, "an NIL-based platform focused primarily on booking live events for student-athletes, including autograph signings, meet-and-greets, and speaking engagements," Adelson reported. Both athletes have also set their sights on getting into the NFT market.
The news comes on the heels of multiple states making it possible for NCAA athletes to make money off of their "name, image, and likeness." Florida was the first state to set new NIL laws for student-athletes.
Adelson explained that the NCAA's prohibition of pay-to-play transactions is still in effect, and "most of the focus on profitability has centered on autograph sessions, camps, local appearances, social media influencer status and possibilities for endorsement deals from a range of companies and businesses."
Plans for Dreamfield to take on the NFT market are still fluid.
"This is an opportunity for me to get my foot in the door to start being an entrepreneur, but this is also something that I'm passionate about, helping college athletes monetize off their name, image, and likeness," Milton told ESPN.com. "This should have been something going on for a while, but now it's here, and it's a cool opportunity."
