The Ohio State Buckeyes are 2-0 on the season, and all is well on the football field. In the current class of 2026 recruiting, the Buckeyes hold the No. 9-ranked recruiting class. While Ohio State has missed on several key recruits over the last couple of months, they still have a chance to close strong and finish with another top-10 class. Looking ahead to 2027, the Buckeyes are already off to a strong start with five-star wide receiver Jamier Brown and four-star quarterback Brady Edmunds.

Ohio State vs. Tennessee for a Five-Star Running Back

The Buckeyes are pursuing five-star Baylor School (TN) running back David Gabriel-Georges, and they appear to be one of the two frontrunners for the talented prospect. Ohio State’s only two commitments in 2027 are on the offensive side of the ball, and adding an elite running back would be a major boost—especially after missing on Savion Hiter in the 2026 cycle. According to Rivals, Ohio State is in a strong position with Gabriel-Georges.

“Josh Heupel and De’Rial Sims were on hand for David Gabriel-Georges’ game Friday night, though weather canceled the matchup. The in-state running back will be back in Knoxville next weekend for Tennessee’s showdown with Georgia. Before kickoff, Gabriel-Georges was sporting Ohio State gear after a recent trip to Columbus. Right now, it’s the Buckeyes and Vols battling for the top spot, and both staffs feel confident in their chances. Talking to sources, Tennessee has some buzz around it. Plenty of other schools are in the mix, but there is some separation at the top.”

Gabriel-Georges is a 6-foot, 205-pound back ranked as the No. 3 running back and No. 34 overall player in the class, per the 247Sports Composite. While Ohio State and Tennessee sit atop his recruitment, the five-star has over 30 offers, including from Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Auburn, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Oklahoma.

At Ohio State, CJ Donaldson is in his final year at the position, with sophomore James Peoples, true freshman Bo Jackson, and freshman Isaiah West filling out the depth chart. Sam Williams-Dixon and Turbo Rodgers add further depth. In the class of 2026, four-star Favour Akih (Delaware Hayes, OH) is committed to running backs coach Carlos Locklyn’s unit. Tennessee is considered the favorite to land the in-state star, but the Buckeyes are firmly in the mix. Gabriel-Georges is one of the biggest names on the board in 2027, and Ohio State would love to pull him out of SEC territory.
