Oklahoma Sooners WR Deion Burks is not afraid to admit that he will have a bit of extra hatred towards Michigan next week

The Oklahoma Sooners are quickly on to next week after beating FCS opponent Illinois State in a game that was never close. Deion Burks and company were able to show that this offense really can be miles better than what they were last year. Now they're ready to further prove that, but against a great defense like the one the Michigan Wolverines have.

"I can't wait for them to come here. You know, I'm from Michigan, so it's definitely personal for me. I played them twice... They're a nice team, always going to be good on defense, but I'm excited to play them next week," Burks told reporters after the win over Illinois State.

John Mateer, the Sooners' new quarterback that they got in the transfer portal, played amazingly. He was everything that Sooners fans were hoping they would get, especially after the fiasco they got last year. Burks had a highlight one-handed catch on the sideline and then a touchdown, and his running mate, Keontez Lewis, was the star of the show, with nine catches for 119 yards and two touchdowns.

The run game was okay, but it should have been much better considering the type of talent they were playing. Against Michigan, that won't fly. The Wolverines have an elite defensive line, one that will likely do the Sooners' run game even worse than Illinois State did. So, the passing game has to be on point. Luckily for the Sooners, we could get a much hungrier version of Burks, the best receiver on the team, than we are used to seeing.

This game is personal for him.

Sooners WR Deion Burks reveals why Michigan is personal

To start last season, we saw what Burks can be for the Sooners. He had a game with three touchdowns. Then, he was hurt pretty much the rest of the season, where he was either missing games or playing through injuries. On Saturday, we still didn't see the best of him, but that's mainly because of the Sooners getting everyone involved in a game where they were blowing their opponent out. With Michigan coming to Norman next week, Burks could be set to go off.

"I'm not going to say," Burks said with a big laugh when asked if he grew up a Michigan fan. "No, Michigan did not recruit me, so I do not like them. Yes, it's definitely personal. It's definitely going to be big. I just can't wait, I know the atmosphere is going to be crazy."

Michigan is more of a run defense team than a passing defense. But, they aren't just bad there, either. Against New Mexico on Saturday, Michigan held them to 51 yards rushing on 1.9 yards per carry and 217 passing yards on 4.5 yards per attempt. After what we saw on Saturday with the Sooners, it seems their offense is more likely to be successful through the air than not. And that would mean Burks is going to be needed in a big way.

Then again, maybe the run game looked poor from Oklahoma because things were vanilla, as Brent Venables said. It's going to be fun to watch how the offense unravels and unwrinkles against an elite defense in Michigan, and it will be even more fun to see how Burks plays.
