Tennessee Vols defensive lineman Bryson Eason brought up Pro Football Hall of Famer Ray Lewis at SEC Media Days while talking about UT linebacker Arion Carter.
And we saw exactly why the was the case on Saturday before Tennessee's season-opening 45-26 win against Syracuse.
“When AC talks, everybody’s listening….you got somebody that’s going to give you a Ray Lewis motivational [talk] before the game," said Eason of Carter at SEC Media Days.

Thanks to the official Tennessee football Twitter/X.com account, we got to hear one of those "motivational" pre-game speeches from Carter.

“Let’s get in here tight-- hey, it’s us against the world, fellas," said Carter to his teammates. "It’s us against the world, fellas. Don’t nobody believe in us. Don’t nobody believe in us. Man, we don’t need nobody to believe in us -- because I believe in you. I believe in you. I know you a dog....I know we some dawgs, man. Hey, all this preparation we put in, all that s--t they’ve talked about. It’s time to go release pain, man. It’s time to go put in real damn work.”
How can you not be fired up after that speech???
Carter, by the way, wasn't just Ray Lewis-like in his pregame speech -- he was also Ray Lewis-like on the field. The former four-star recruit totaled nine tackles and a sack in the Vols' win against Syracuse.
The Tennessee native may or may not be a future Hall of Famer -- Carter has a lot of football ahead of him, and we'll see how it goes -- but there's no doubt that the energy he brings to the Vols' defense is a massive asset for UT football.
