New Zealand’s Kane Williamson was run out in ugly fashion during the first Test against Australia at the Basin Reserve in Wellington on Friday. The score was 12-1 when the Kiwi stalwart walked into the middle and the mishap took place a couple of balls later as he walked back without troubling the scorers.
Williamson pushed a ball straight to Marnus Labuschagne at mid-off and tried to snatch a single. Non-striker Will Young who was running from the same side of the pitch bumped into Williamson, who was ball-watching. Williamson wasn’t left with enough time to make his ground after the collision as a direct hit found the Kiwi number three well short of his ground.
Inserted, Australia were in a spot of bother. However, Cameron Green in his new number four role delivered his international Test-best 174 to guide the visitors to a competitive 383 in the first innings of the match.
The pressure is on New Zealand after Kane Williamson was run out – the first time in a Test Match since 2012
