The legacy and impact former Indian skipper MS Dhoni has left on Indian cricket is immense. Dhoni was an inspirational leader, an instrumental finisher and one of the greatest wicketkeepers in world cricket. He ended his career with 4876 runs in Tests, 10773 runs in ODIs and 1617 runs in T20Is despite batting in the lower-order for the majority of his career.

1. Sri Lanka (4)

Dhoni scored two centuries each in Tests and ODIs against Sri Lanka. He scored a couple of hundreds in the same series in late 2009, as he scored 110 off 159 in the drawn Test in Ahmedabad before an unbeaten 100 off 154 in India's victory by an innings and 24 runs in Mumbai.

Dhoni's first ODI ton against the Lankans (183* off 145 in Jaipur in 2005) turned out to be his highest ODI score. His next century came four years after the 183-run knock, a 111-ball 107 in Nagpur. However, India lost the game by three wickets.

2. Pakistan (3)

Dhoni hit his first ton (148 off 123) against Pakistan in just his second ODI as the Men in Blue locked horns with their arch-rivals. Not even a year had passed when he registered the same number of runs (148 off 153) in the Faisalabad Test against the same opposition. Later, Dhoni won the Player of the Match award in a losing cause for scoring 113 of India's 227 runs in an ODI in December 2012.

3. Australia (3)

Dhoni played a crucial role in India's 99-run victory against Australia in an ODI in 2009, contributing a brisk 124 off 107. His next hundred the Australians was a stellar 224-run knock in the Chennai Test in 2013. The 265-ball knock remains Dhoni's highest Test score. His next hundred against Australia came in an ODI in Mohali later in 2013, when he stroked a breezy unbeaten 139 off 121.

4. South Africa (1)

Dhoni's sole ton against the Proteas came in a Test match at the Eden Gardens in 2010. Dhoni's 132* off 272 was the fourth 100-plus knock by an Indian in the hosts' first innings. India declared on 643/6 and ended up winning the contest by a comprehensive margin of an innings and 57 runs.

5. England (1)

Dhoni's solitary century against England came in a 50-over classic in 2017. He joined hands with Yuvraj Singh (150 off 127) to put on a mammoth 256-run stand for the fourth wicket. Dhoni ultimately scored 134 off 122 as India ended up winning by 15 runs in a match where both teams surpassed the 350-run mark.

6. West Indies (1)

Dhoni scored only one century against West Indies as well. Coming in at No. 8, he combined with VVS Laxman to pile up misery on the opposition. The 224-run stand came to an end after Dhoni was dismissed six runs short of a well-deserved 150. It was yet another comprehensive win for India, as the won the match by an innings and 15 runs.

7. Bangladesh (1)

Bangladesh was another opposition against whom Dhoni scored only one hundred. He partnered alongside Virat Kohli (91 off 102) to steer India out of the early trouble during a tri-nation tournament in Bangladesh in January 2010. He remained unbeaten at 101 off 107 with only nine fours being scored throughout his innings.

8. Hong Kong (1)

Dhoni hit six fours and as many sixes in his maiden ODI innings against Hong Kong. Dhoni registered an unbeaten 109 off just 96 as India ended up scoring 374/4. Suresh Raina (101 off 68) was the other centurion from the innings. The Asia Cup clash went in the favour of India by a massive margin of 256 runs.

9. Africa XI (1)

Dhoni's scores in the first two ODIs of the Afro-Asia Cup 2007 read 2 off 4 and 33 off 38. He starred in the third match with a high-tempo, unbeaten 97-ball 139. He later contributed with three stumpings in the second innings as Asia XI completed a clean-sweep over their opposition.
