Former India skipper MS Dhoni has once again topped the list of the highest individual taxpayers in the Bihar-Jharkhand region for the financial year 2025-26, showing the veteran's stature even after taking retirement from international cricket.

The news was revealed by Dr. D. Sudhakar Rao, who is the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax for Bihar and Jharkhand. According to him, Dhoni is the highest taxpayer in the individual category in the region. While the tax paid by the legendary wicket-keeper was not announced, it was confirmed that Dhoni is the leading contributor among the taxpayers.

Dhoni is the most famous celebrity in Ranchi, and he continues to be followed by millions in Jharkhand. Dr. Rao said that Jharkhand's tax revenue contribution was approximately Rs 12,000, with Bihar's figures standing at around Rs 8,000 crore. The combined revenue target was Rs 20,000 crore, and Jharkhand was the big contributor due to its industries and commercial infrastructure.

Dhoni's cricket future remains uncertain

Although Dhoni stepped away from the international circuit years ago, he is still active for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. The five-time IPL winner is a part of the set-up, but he hasn't played a match in the 19th season because of an injury. Dhoni's fitness remains a talking point, with speculation around his possible return to the team doing the rounds. The current season has entered its crucial phase.

Reports suggest that Dhoni is on the verge of recovering from his injury. Still, he doesn't want to impact the combination of the franchise, particularly if Chennai remains in contention for the playoffs.

Even without making any appearance this year, he is helping the players from behind the scenes. He is attending practice sessions and is giving inputs to his teammates about how to approach matches and deal with pressure situations.

While there is no information about his future, Dhoni is still one of the most recognizable and commercially successful faces in India.

He continues to make an impact in the world of endorsements and business. CSK's new signing, Sanju Samson, recently lauded Dhoni for his positive influence on the players. The team management and the owners have left the decision of his possible return to the player, and he will take the final call on whether he wants to compete for CSK this season.

Chennai still have a chance to make it to the playoffs in the IPL 2026, but they need to win their remaining matches. CSK have won 5 and lost 5, with the franchise being in sixth spot.
