Fallon Sherrock announces extended break from darts at the end of 2025 season: 'I need to get myself well again'

Fallon Sherrock has announced her intention to take a break from professional darts next year in order to prioritise her health. However, the 30-year-old remains determined to qualify for both the Grand Slam of Darts and the PDC World Darts Championship later this year, before stepping away.

Sherrock made global headlines at the 2020 PDC World Darts Championship, where she became the first woman to defeat a man on the Alexandra Palace stage. After dispatching Ted Evetts in the opening round, she then went on to stun Mensur Suljovic in the second, before eventually bowing out in the third round to Chris Dobey. Her trailblazing performance earned her the nickname ‘The Queen of the Palace’, invitations to several World Series of Darts events, and worldwide renown as one of the biggest names in the entire sport of darts.

However, the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic brought much of that momentum to a halt, as a number of international tournaments were cancelled or postponed. In subsequent years, Sherrock remained a regular fixture on the PDC Women’s Series and made further appearances at the Ally Pally, but has been unable to recapture the heights of her 2020 form. Multiple attempts to earn a coveted PDC Tour Card have also fallen short.

In recent months, her progress has been further hampered by health issues, which she candidly addressed in a recent interview with Online Darts: "All I want to do is practice at home for a couple of hours a day, and I can't do that at the moment," Sherrock admitted. "I've had to pull out of some exhibitions recently as well, because I haven't had the stamina. I really wanted to play in the Women's Week at Modus, but I wasn't able to do the whole week of that. So I've had to narrow down what I'm playing in now, and that hurts because I love darts."

"Fingers crossed though, that in a couple of years time I'll be alright and I'll be back to winning really well," she adds with a smile. "My main objective this year is obviously the Worlds. But I want to try and get to the Grand Slam this year, because I feel like if I am going to have a year out next year, I want to make a bang. I'm going to try and get to everything, then even if I'm not playing to my 100%, at least I can say that I made it."

"I just need to sort myself out," Sherrock concludes. "I need to get myself well again and then once I do, the sky is the limit because I know I can do it and I know how many hours I've got to put in, what standard I've got to play. So I can do it, I just need the energy for it first."
