The Dutch team continues to impress at the 2025 World Cup of Darts. On Sunday afternoon, Danny Noppert and Gian van Veen made light work of the Czech Republic, cruising to an 8-2 victory in the quarter-finals — another step towards a potential title win in Frankfurt. And that possibility is far from unrealistic, as the chemistry between the orange-clad duo appears to be rock-solid.
After the match, the mood in the Dutch camp was jubilant — not just because of the win, but because of the growing trust between the two players.
Noppert and Van Veen hit an impressive 44% of their doubles against the Czechs — yet another sign of the strong form they’re in. “I think our finishing percentage has been really good throughout the tournament,” Van Veen said with satisfaction. “Hopefully we can keep that going tonight.”
It’s a dream debut for Van Veen. In his very first appearance at the World Cup, he’s already made it to the semi-finals. The realisation is starting to sink in that something special might be on the cards.
“It would make me incredibly proud,” he replied when asked what winning the title would mean. “This is the first time I’ve worn the orange shirt. If we keep playing like we have, we’ve got a great chance.”Before he could even finish, Noppert chimed in with a big smile:
“Just look at how he plays — brilliant. I’m really proud.”Van Veen, visibly moved by his teammate’s words, responded with a heartfelt message of his own: “I’m lucky to have Danny as my partner. He’s a real friend. To experience this with him is truly amazing.”
In the semi-finals, the Netherlands will face Wales on Sunday evening — with the experienced duo of Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton standing in their way. It promises to be a thrilling clash between two nations with rich World Cup histories. The Dutch have lifted the trophy four times before, though the last time was back in 2018, when Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld still played together.
