Alicia Witt is mourning the tragic loss of her parents, 87-year-old Robert Witt and 75-year-old Diane Witt, who were both found dead inside their home in Worcester, Massachusetts, on Monday night (Dec. 20).
"I reached out to a cousin who lives close to my parents to check on them," the 46-year-old actress, author and singer-songwriter wrote in a statement, per The Associated Press. "Sadly, the outcome was unimaginable. I ask for some privacy at this time to grieve and to wrap my head around this turn of events, and this surreal loss."
According to the AP, causes of death have not been determined with autopsies scheduled, though "there were no obvious signs of trauma."
The Telegram & Gazette reported that reports had previously been made about "furnace problems" in the home, leading the couple to use a space heater, but local police confirmed that firefighters "found no noxious gases" after checking the house's air quality. "A neighbor said the couple were rarely seen outside the home and that she believed they had been ill for sometime," the publication relayed.
Witt's acting credits include Dune (1984), Twin Peaks (1990, 2017), Cybill ('95-'98), The Sopranos (2000), Ally McBeal ('00), Law & Order: Criminal Intent ('07), Friday Night Lights ('09-'11), Justified ('14), Nashville ('16), The Walking Dead ('16), The Exorcist ('17) and Orange Is the New Black ('19).
Witt also released an album titled The Conduit and published a book titled Small Changes this fall.
