Kristen Stewart dazzles as Princess Diana in 'Spencer' teaser trailer
Kristen Stewart is already creating Oscar buzz, and Spencer isn't due until Nov. 5.
First, at CinemaCon earlier this week, Stewart made her official debut as the late Princess Diana during a 20-minute presentation of footage exclusively shown to those attending the Las Vegas convention.
"The footage, which hasn’t been made available to the general public, features fabulous suits, elaborate scenery, and a tense conversation between the Prince and Princess of Wales," Variety relayed Wednesday (Aug. 25).
Thursday (Aug. 26), the general public finally got a taste of the highly anticipated film with the release of the 70-second official teaser trailer:
Directed by Pablo Larraín and written by Steven Knight, the film also stars Jack Farthing, Sean Harris, Sally Hawkins and Timothy Spall.
The official synopsis reads: "The marriage of Princess Diana and Prince Charles has long since grown cold. Though rumors of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at the Queen’s Sandringham Estate. There's eating and drinking, shooting and hunting. Diana knows the game. But this year, things will be profoundly different. Spencer is an imagining of what might have happened during those few fateful days."
Stewart has spoken about the process of transforming into "one of the most beloved figures in the history of the world," as Jimmy Kimmel described it, over the last several months:
Princess Diana tragically died on Aug. 31, 1997, in a car crash instigated by relentless paparazzi after having dinner with her boyfriend, Dodi Al-Fayed, at the Ritz Hotel in Paris. She was just 36 years old.
