Before Natalee Holloway, there was Amy Lynn Bradley. Amy Bradley is Missing has been recently released by Netflix. The three-part docuseries takes a look at her strange disappearance. In 1998, her father, Ron Bradley, won a trip to go on a Royal Caribbean cruise. After the cruise ship left Aruba, but before docking in Curaçao, Amy went missing. Sadly, she has never been found. There are multiple theories as to what happened. Netflix show Amy Bradley is Missing covers the theories and delves into possible sightings of her.

Amy Bradley is Missing – First 24 Hours

After a night of dancing in the cruise ship’s bar, Amy and her younger brother, Brad, went back to their cabin. She and her brother talked on the cabin’s balcony, then Brad went in to get some sleep, while Amy stayed out on the private balcony. Her father, Ron, awoke to notice her sleeping around 5 a.m. or a little after, and that was the very last time he saw Amy.

Ron Bradley asked the cruise ship to make an announcement, to do a thorough search, and not to let passengers disembark in Curaçao. The ship did not comply, only making an announcement hours later. Unfortunately, thousands of passengers debarked on the island.

The rest of the Bradley family left the ship and worked with Dutch authorities to search the island and the waters around it. No trace of Amy was found on Curaçao, in the surrounding waters, or on the ship.

Amy Bradley Sightings

Over the next few years, there would be sightings of Amy Bradley – or someone who looked very much like her. She had been seen by a diver going to a beach, a Naval corpsman going into a brothel, and a woman using a restroom at a souvenir shop in Barbados. Nothing panned out.

At one point, someone claimed to see Amy talking to a street musician in San Francisco. In the early 2000s, the family appeared on Dr. Phil. They were sent a picture of someone who looked like Amy on a sex website. Although it wasn’t 100% confirmed, a forensic photograph analyst stated that it “could be” Amy.

The Frank Jones Scam

Some people deserve a special place in purgatory. Frank Jones was someone claiming to be “military special forces.” He said he could assemble a team of ex-Navy SEALs and former Army Rangers to embark on a rescue. He fed the Bradley family false information regarding Amy. He said she was being held in a heavily guarded compound with Colombian drug lords and that his team could do an extraction.

The only thing he extracted was over $200,000 from the Bradley family. They were desperate to get their daughter back. Jones subsequently served a sentence of five years for mail fraud.

Theories on Amy Bradley is Missing

Multiple theories have been posited. The first one being that Amy was drunk and fell overboard. Because there was nothing found in the water and Amy had been a lifeguard, that particular theory is widely disregarded. Her parents stated she was not suicidal, as she was starting a new job and moving into a new apartment. Plus, she was a devoted dog mom to bulldog Daisy.

There was a theory that she could have been kidnapped and sold into sex slavery. Sex trafficking is rampant in these areas, and that was a hypothesis for Natalee Holloway. Another theory is that she could have been killed on or off the ship.

The Bradley family reported that the cruise ship’s crew had taken a special interest in Amy. The customary pictures they take of guests at dinner get posted, but the ones of Amy had disappeared. Also, more disturbingly, Amy had been seen dancing with the ship’s band’s bass player, Alistair “Yellow” Douglas, the night of her disappearance. Douglas was cleared later of any involvement.

The Netflix documentary premiered on Wednesday, July 16th. Amy Bradley’s family has set up a tipline at 804.789.4AMY (4269) and a website, amybradleyismissing.com. They have never lost hope that she is alive.
