Taking on the role of Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic is a pretty daunting task, especially when it's a character that has already been brought to life on the big screen multiple times. However, Pedro Pascal has a solution.
"I'm friends with Miles, I'm friends with Chris, and yeah, we talked about it," the actor told Entertainment Weekly with a laugh. "A lot."
He's referring to his recent The Materialists co-star, Chris Evans, and Miles Teller. Evans starred as Johnny Storm/the Human Torch in both 2005's Fantastic Four and 2007's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer before reprising the role in Deadpool & Wolverine, which came out last year. As for Teller, he played Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic in 2015's Fantastic Four.
"I love that there can be previous authorship to things, and absorbing information and resources from wherever I can, whether it be decades-long comics that have changed a number of times over time, other movies, other performances," he expressed. "[They] all are pieces to the puzzle to me, and I like as much information as I gather."
The cast of Matt Shakman's Fantastic Four: First Steps also includes Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Joseph Quinn, Ralph Ineson, and Julia Garner. Marvel’s First Family will return for Avengers: Doomsday.
Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired,
retro-futuristic world, Marvel Studios’ “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” introduces Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ben Grimm/The Thing as they face their most daunting challenge yet. Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer. And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be released in theaters on July 25.
