So, what’s in a show? The best TV shows of 2025 are all about thrilling action, thought-provoking characters, and intense drama, with a sprinkling of humor. Good TV shows can also foster thoughtful conversations. They’re not afraid to touch upon issues that may translate into real life. Also, one key thing is that we’ve noticed some of the best TV series build upon a story each week; this adds dimension to the plot – and makes for a suspenseful tale, which undoubtedly attracts viewers.
Besides a talented cast, we looked at a creative premise, original character arcs, and an appealing set-up. Although some shows could be considered darker and more fraught with tension than others, we looked at the message as a whole and what it means to be completely immersed in a story. Whether it’s helping to solve a crime or peeling back the layers of a sci-fi drama, or even laughing along with the ridiculous trials and tribulations of our favorite characters, we picked some of the most intriguing shows. Let’s see what the best TV shows of 2025 look like.
Adam Scott leads the cast in this sci-fi/workplace drama. He portrays Mark, a worker at Lumon, which is a corporation that’s so “secretive” that the employees actually have two different identities – one at work, and another one away from work. Interesting and stunning cinematography – and an original premise make the series highly watchable.
It’s a bit of a tangled web, set at a posh luxury resort. Jon Gries, Jennifer Coolidge, and Natasha Rothwell lead this cast of mysterious and eccentric characters. The show examines issues like incest, old grudges, personal boundaries, and, oh yeah… murder. Nuanced acting, dark humor, and unexpected twists make this one of the best TV shows 2025.
Not for the squeamish and those who shy away from medical dramas, The Pitt examines life in an ER. Set in Pittsburgh (“the Pitt”), it’s about as realistic as it can get. Noah Wyle absolutely shines in this as Dr. Robinavitch. Intense drama, well-written characters, and special effects that are, let’s just say, pretty graphic, all add to the show’s watchability.
Addictive doesn’t even begin to describe this adult take on a children’s game. The South Korean show boasts action, drama, thrills, and twists that one would never see coming. The premise is that hundreds of down-on-their-luck folks are invited to play a game, but with high stakes. Now, if that doesn’t make for a captivating show, we don’t know what does!
Irreverent humor, fumbling characters, and Seth Rogen all make this show a worthwhile watch. The Studio is about a Hollywood studio (shocker) struggling to survive in a world where the landscape of production is massively changing. Hilarious, touching, and often unexpected, this well-acted series is definitely one of the best TV shows of 2025.
This Canadian export made the list because of its talented cast, beautiful scenery, and we’re seeing a resurgence of cozy crime series. Plus, who doesn’t love an intelligent German Shepherd? The story follows the detective and his dog, Rex (oops, we mean “highly trained law enforcement animal”), as they partner together to solve crimes in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.
It’s baaaack! Goth fans unite! Jenna Ortega stars as Wednesday in this Addams Family-inspired series. And Jenna is perfect as a brooding and analytical teen. Dark and haunting scenery, intricate architecture, beautiful Gothic costumes, and an incorrigible pet hand named “Thing” make this show highly watchable, extremely engaging, and creepily binge-worthy.
Cue the Phil Collins’ song ‘Another Day in Paradise’ as that’s the whole irony about this show. Creativity abounds in the premise: after a series of catastrophic events make the earth uninhabitable, select citizens are forced to live underground in the city called, yep, you guessed it, Paradise. So is it? Tune in to find out exactly how perfect Paradise really is.
Set against the backdrop of the stunning, picturesque, and often desolate Navajo reservation, we follow Tony Hillerman‘s beloved characters. Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee solve various crimes taking place on the reservation in the 1970s. Well-acted, thoughtful scriptwriting, and a little rez humor (and lore) is injected to make this an ideal way to spend your evening.
Okay, this is a total police/GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigation) procedural, but we have to include it here. Amazing acting from the lead Ramón Rodriguez, with strong support from Iantha Richardson, Erika Christensen, and Sonja Sohn. Rodriguez gives a masterful performance as Trent, who has his own issues that he must face while expertly solving crimes.
These are just a few of the best TV shows this year. No matter whether you like crime dramas (as there are many), offbeat comedies, end-of-the-world or post-apocalyptic fare, or a character study, you’ll be sure to find something you like. With writers getting more and more creative and a variety of issues being explored, 2025 has shaped up to be one of the best seasons in television yet.
