Brian Wilson‘s daughters shared an update on their father at the premiere of the new Disney+ Beach Boys documentary on Tuesday night (May 21).
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the event at the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, Carnie Wilson and Wendy Wilson opened up about their dad’s health following his diagnosis with a neurocognitive disorder and being placed under a court conservatorship earlier this year.
“He is doing great! He is doing great. Everyday he is in physical therapy. I’m cooking for him, he’s spending a lot of time with his children now, his family,” Carnie said. “I’m so happy he’s here tonight.”
Brian appeared in a wheelchair at the red carpet event and was reunited with his Beach Boys bandmates David Marks, Al Jardine, Blondie Chaplin, Mike Love, and Bruce Johnston. He appeared to be in good spirits as he posed for photographers.
“I think he’s doing really good under the circumstances that he’s going through right now,” Wendy added. “But, you know, he’s a survivor. That’s my dad. He’s very tough, a very strong person. So yeah, I’m glad that he’s coming tonight and I think that he’ll really enjoy it, actually.”
Carnie and Wendy are Brian’s two children from his first marriage to Marilyn Wilson-Rutherford, which ended in 1981. The iconic singer went on to marry Melinda Ledbetter in 1995, and they adopted Daria, Dakota, Delanie, Dash, and Dylan.
Ledbetter died on January 30, 2024, and shortly after, Brian’s family filed for a conservatorship.
“Following the passing of Brian’s beloved wife Melinda, after careful consideration and consultation among Brian, his seven children, Gloria Ramos and Brian’s doctors (and consistent with family processes put in place by Brian and Melinda), we are confirming that longtime Wilson family representatives LeeAnn Hard and Jean Sievers will serve as Brian’s co-conservators of the person,” Wilson’s family said in a statement at the time.
It’s not yet known if Brian’s health struggles will be addressed in the new documentary film. According to the project’s official description, “The Beach Boys is a celebration of the legendary band that revolutionized pop music, and the iconic, harmonious sound they created that personified the California dream, captivating fans for generations and generations to come.”
“The documentary traces the band from humble family beginnings and features never-before-seen footage and all-new interviews,” it adds.

Browns play cruel joke on Shedeur Sanders before preseason opener
The Cleveland Browns aren't setting fifth-round pick Shedeur Sanders up for success before he makes his debut against the Carolina Panthers on Friday night. Amid hamstring injuries to Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel, the Browns are giving the start to Sanders, hoping to keep QB1 Joe Flacco healthy before the regular season. However, the Browns aren't making Sanders' life easy before Friday's game. Per Zack Jackson of The Athletic, Sanders has yet to receive reps with the first-team offense in practice and has mostly worked with the third team in training camp. "Through 10 days of camp, Sanders is the only one of the four Browns quarterbacks not to take snaps with the No. 1 offense," Jackson wrote. "He piloted the No. 2 offense in one drill last week against the Browns’ No. 1 defense, but the majority of his snaps in camp have come with and against the No. 3 units... "Wednesday’s joint practice should provide some clarity on the Browns’ exact thinking and availability for Friday. Sanders likely won’t take No. 1 reps in the joint session, but he’ll have that practice and a Thursday walk-through to prepare further — and potentially get the chance to play the full game in the preseason opener." Per Fred Greetham of 247 Sports, Sanders did not receive reps with the first-team offense during the joint practice on Wednesday, but did take part in four plays during an 11-on-11 period against the Panthers following Flacco's reps. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski thinks Sanders has received enough reps from the second and third team units to be ready for Friday night, arguing that the only thing different about the players on the first team is the "batteries" they're built with. "That's part of, I think it's just preseason ball, where you may have some ones going against twos," Stefanski said. "Two's going against one's. You could have, there's different guys in there at different times, but I think both sides, particularly in that first game, it's all about playing fast. "So you typically don't see a ton of looks that are unusual per se. So if you stick to your rules and you stick to what you've been taught over the last few weeks, you should be able to operate and function well." Sanders is going into his first NFL game flying blind after the Browns played a cruel joke on him this week. Frankly, there is a considerable difference in throwing to the equipment staff and players signed as undrafted free agents versus the speed that a first-team offense in the league has. The Browns aren't giving Sanders a fair fight by allowing him to practice a few reps with the first team. It's now up to Sanders to quickly respond to the differences if he wants a chance to move up the depth chart.
Dream Dealt Unfortunate News on Brittney Griner on Thursday
Neck pain isn’t usually headline news, unless it belongs to Brittney Griner. Atlanta Dream fans hoping for another dominant night on Thursday just had their mood checked. Griner is officially out again, and suddenly that winning streak feels a little more fragile. The Dream hit the road to face the struggling Chicago Sky, a team sitting at 8-21 and already missing rookie standout Angel Reese. But while the Sky limp into Wintrust Arena, the Dream aren’t walking in at full strength either. On Wednesday, the team ruled out Griner for a third straight game due to her lingering neck injury. According to the WNBA’s official injury report, she’s still not ready for game action. Griner’s absence is a blow. The nine-time All-Star has been averaging 10.6 points and 5.6 boards while shooting over 51 percent from the field this season. She signed with Atlanta as a free agent this offseason, helping turn the Dream into a serious contender after last year’s playoff sneak-in. But with their star center on the bench again, the Dream will have to get creative, and gritty. Brionna Jones, Naz Hillmon Set to Step Up With Griner out, Atlanta is expected to lean on Brionna Jones and Naz Hillmon to carry the frontcourt load. Jones, another offseason addition, has already started taking on a bigger role. The team will need her presence inside to stretch the Sky’s defense and crash the boards. It’s not all gloom, though. Griner’s "doubtful" tag before last week’s Mercury game was the same story, and she’s reportedly getting closer to a return. But Atlanta’s not taking risks with their veteran star, and they shouldn't. Still, with Rhyne Howard also sidelined due to a knee issue, the Dream are down two primary weapons. That makes Thursday’s game less about comfort and more about character.
Pistons Predicted to Send Tobias Harris to Nets for Former Champion Forward in Offseason Trade
The Detroit Pistons have had an interesting offseason thus far as they try to build off an impressive season last year. Of course, the Pistons went from having the worst record in the NBA the prior two seasons to making the playoffs as the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference last season. Now with most of their core led by Cade Cunningham, Tobias Harris, Jalen Duren and Ausar Thompson set to return next season, they are looking to take advantage of a weakened East and clinch a top playoff spot. Despite this, the Pistons did lose Tim Hardaway Jr., Dennis Schroder and likely Malik Beasley in free agency, though they did sign Duncan Robinson and Caris LeVert. Detroit could still look to make more moves before the start of next season and Sports Illustrated’s Jackson Caudell and Rohan Raman recently released a mock trade that would land the Pistons a former NBA champion. Pistons predicted to land Michael Porter Jr. from Nets In the trade, the Pistons would acquire Michael Porter Jr. from the Brooklyn Nets for Harris, Marcus Sasser, Bobi Klintman and a top-10 protected 2027 first-round pick. Brooklyn would also send Day’Ron Sharpe to the Atlanta Hawks for Vit Krejci and three second-round picks. This is an interesting trade for the Pistons to make and one that does not make a ton of sense as they would be moving on from two key players from last season in Harris and Sasser. Despite this, adding a knockdown shooter in Porter Jr. to their lineup along with a player who has championship experience from his time with the Denver Nuggets could be a solid addition to their roster. For Porter Jr., he is a great scorer who would provide some much-needed spacing in the Pistons’ starting lineup and would also slot in as their likely second option behind Cunningham. Porter Jr. has also improved defensively over the past few seasons, though swapping Harris and Sasser for him would be a major risk for the Pistons to take, especially with Porter Jr.’s injury history. While that may be the case, adding Porter Jr. next to their young core of Cunningham, Thompson, Duren, Jaden Ivey and Ron Holland II could make the Pistons a contender next season and for years to come.
Oilers' new signing ranked among NHL's worst contracts
Despite boasting a core of elite contracts that include Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and Zach Hyman, the Edmonton Oilers saw their overall contract value rankings take a hit in a recent article by The Athletic. Dom Luszczyszyn looks at every team and its contract situations each season. The Oilers ranked 8th overall, but that dropped them down the standings, largely due to the new eight-year, $3.9 million AAV deal handed to forward Trent Frederic. In a recent analysis evaluating NHL contract efficiency, Frederic’s deal earned a D-grade — one of the lowest marks handed out — alongside the much-maligned Darnell Nurse contract. He was signed to the new deal this offseason after arriving to the Oilers via a trade at the deadline. Injured, but in the lineup for the playoffs, he wasn’t exactly the most effective forward. The Oilers believe he has a lot more to give and GM Stan Bowman bet on the forward. Frederic’s extension, which carries a modest annual cap hit but stretches through 2033, is projected to offer just a +20.1% positive value while delivering a -$15.2 million total surplus over its duration. Frederic’s ranking is particularly glaring when placed next to the six A-grade contracts on the Oilers’ books. No other forward has a grade lower than a C. The team also has four different A-grades, an A for McDavid and an A+ for Draisaitl. Combined with team-friendly deals for stars like McDavid and Draisaitl, Edmonton remains one of the league’s most efficient teams in terms of contract value. Will the Oilers shed either of these bad contracts? According to this ranking, Frederic and Nurse deals are two glaring liabilities. Don’t expect the Oilers to move off either contract anytime soon. Bowman said of the Frederic deal: “…he’s a very unique player with the skillset that he has. He’s a big guy, he’s a physical player, he’s not afraid. He’s got that intimidation factor where he’ll go to the other team’s bench and challenge anybody, like stop messing around with our group. That’s something that I find, you either have that or you don’t. … And he’s scored, you know, he scored what, 18 goals twice in a row at a fairly young, younger age. So I think he’s got the game in him. And I think when you add all that up, it comes down to he’s a very unique player. It’s not like if we passed on Frederic, we’ll just go get so-and-so, who’s maybe a little different, but the same type of player. Not a lot of guys like that out there. They just aren’t anymore.” As for Nurse, there was talk that the Oilers approached him and others about their no-move clauses, and Nurse declined to waive his. The hope is that he elevates his game, and with the rising salary cap, his deal doesn’t look like such an albatross. With several key contracts set to expire soon — including McDavid’s — and questions lingering around term for others, the Oilers need to be cautious with long-term commitments. As it stands, the Frederic deal is a warning sign that not every extension is created equal, even on a Cup-contending roster.
