Michael B. Jordan, currently red hot thanks to the success of "Sinners," is off and running with his remake of "The Thomas Crown Affair." It's truly his remake, as he's not just starring as Thomas Crown but producing and directing. Production has started, and it was already known that Taylor Russell was starring opposite Jordan as the investigator chasing Crown down. However, the cast has been rounding itself out nicely, with another notable addition in the mix in Danai Gurira.
Gurira, who worked with Jordan on "Black Panther," will reportedly be playing a confidante of Jordan's Crown. She's a good actor, and it would certainly seem the two like working together, which is a plus given her role in the movie.
The other recent additions, though they are in undisclosed roles, are Kenneth Branagh and Lily Gladstone. It definitely seems that Jordan's movie is riffing more on the 1999 film starring Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo, as opposed to the 1968 original with Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway. That's for the best. The Brosnan movie is a kinetic action flick about a suave art thief. The original is about a bank robber and is kind of a snooze for large stretches. Also, a lot of people probably don't know the 1968 movie exists, so when they hear "Thomas Crown Affair," they are assuming this movie will be like the 1999 one.
While production has started, "The Thomas Crown Affair" is not slated to hit theaters until March 5, 2027.
