Prime Video has shared the official trailer for Colin Hanks' John Candy: I Like Me, which will have its world premiere at the opening night of the 50th Toronto International Film Festival.
Those who knew John best share his story, in their own words, through never-before-seen archival footage, imagery, and interviews. It’s a documentary of the life, career, and loss of one of the most beloved actors of all time.
You can hear the exclusive debut of Cynthia Erivo's original recording of "Everytime You Go Away" in the trailer. Along with Hank, Sean Stuart, Glen Zipper, Ryan Reynolds, George Dewey, Johnny Pariseau, and Shane Reid produce, while Ashley Fox and Patrick Gooing executive produce.
"He was an incredible human being and a kind, loving, generous spirit. But all of those qualities were coping mechanisms for a tremendous amount of pain and sorrow," the director told Variety. "This idea of borrowed time combined with the nature of show business, which is go, go, go, go, moving at the speed of opportunity. Those things came together to create this perpetual motion machine for John that made things incredibly hectic and stressful and added to that general sense of anxiety."
Chris Candy, Jennifer Candy-Sullivan, and Rosemary Candy co-executive produce. Justin Kane serves as the director of photography, with music by Tyler Strickland. Editors include Shane Reid and Darrin Roberts.
For the documentary, Hanks spoke with the actor's co-stars and friends. "It’s through kid glasses, because I knew him when I was young, but even as a child he made you feel like your opinions mattered, your feelings mattered, you mattered," he recalled of his own memories.
Candy had many notable credits, including The Great Outdoors, Spaceballs, Stripes, National Lampoon's Vacation, Cool Runnings, Uncle Buck, Home Alone, and Planes, Trains & Automobiles.
John Candy: I Like Me will be released globally on October 10.
