Eric Kripke teases a major Homelander plot for 'The Boys' Season 5

The Boys season four left its supe-filled world in quite a scary place. Most of the Boys are in captivity, Homelander is basically the POTUS, Soldier Boy is set to return, and the US is under martial law with bad supes controlling everything. Oh, and we assume that Ashley is some monstrous being running around. This all sets up a thrilling fifth and final season for the show. And, unsurprisingly, showrunner Eric Kripke says Homelander will have a big father-son arc with Soldier Boy in The Boys season five.

As we all remember from season three, Homelander is Soldier Boy’s biological son. However, Soldier Boy rejects Homelander’s hopes for a father figure. He ends up in a cryosleep after Homelander chooses to save Ryan from his wrath. The end of season four shows Homelander looking at his dad. We know he won’t be very peaceful when he rises once again.

“The thing about Homelander — and I was just talking to Antony about this yesterday — is it’s sort of tragic, actually, but ultimately, the guy just wants someone to love him,” Kripke explained to TV Insider. “He tries amassing all of this power just so someone somewhere will love him, but they’re all scared of him because of all that power. And I think the same goes for Soldier Boy.”

He spoke further on Homelander’s need for a fatherly embrace. “[Homelander] just wants a dad to love him and be proud of him,” he said. “And without spoiling anything in season five, I would say, because the revelation that Soldier Boy was his father came so late in season three, we never really got the chance to play it, but actually playing this father-son relationship between those two characters, there’s a lot of material to mine there and a lot of fraught emotional turns. So we’re able to dig into that in season five, and it has been a blast watching those two actors play off each other in the dailies.”

Kripke also reveals that The Boys season five is about halfway through shooting. This means we could see new episodes in 2026. That makes sense considering Gen V is set to return this year. No matter when it comes out, we can’t wait to see how this wild ride comes to a close.
