Haley Joel Osment highlights guest stars in Keke Palmers "The 'Burbs" adaptation

The 1989 cult classic film "The 'Burbs'" is being adapted into a Peacock series starring Keke Palmer and details are emerging on potential guest stars.

First, let us say this: original film director Joe Dante should be involved in Peacock's series adaptation. The talented director behind other 80's movies such as "Gremlins" and "Innerspace" would be a natural to ensure the Peacock version lives up to the standards and tone of the original. At least as of last September when the show was announced he was seemingly uninvolved.

However, viewing the series for what it is, there are some encouraging elements. One, "The 'Burbs" offers up plenty of fodder for a horror-comedy series (or, as the show is being presented, a mystery-comedy series). Two, the cast is headlined by Keke Palmer and features the likes of Paula Pell, Mark Proksch, and the awesome Julia Duffy, who has ruled ever since the days of "Newhart." Now, though, a few "recurring guest stars" have been named as well, and there are a couple notable actors.

Among the guest stars are Justin Kirk, RJ Cyler, and Haley Joel Osment. That's right, from "The Sixth Sense" to "The 'Burbs," it's good ol' Haley Joel! We kid Osment, of course. He's obviously best known for that Bigfoot pizza ad he was in as a kid.

Okay, but seriously, Osment has become a good character actor in adulthood, and the same holds true for Cyler and Kirk.

Peacock's version of "The 'Burbs" has the following plot description:

A young couple who have reluctantly relocated to the husband’s childhood home. Their world is upended when a new neighbor moves in across the street bringing old secrets of the cul-de-sac to light, and new deadly threats shatter the illusion of their quiet little  neighborhood.

We're a little worried that the show is starting with Palmer's family moving into the cul-de-sac. The film focused on Tom Hanks as a Suburban Man who has been on his street for years and is dealing with new neighbors. Feels like an attempt to stretch the plot out over extra episodes, but we shall see.
