Hayden Christensen, who played Anakin Skywalker in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, isn’t ready to hang up his lightsaber yet. While he will be returning in Ahsoka Season 2, he discussed some other possibilities for the character at Fan Expo Boston, many of which sound amazing.
According to Cosmic Book News, Christensen was at Fan Expo Boston, where he was asked if he would want to play Anakin again after Ahsoka Season 2. He replied, “If the powers that be decide that’s something that they want to see, I would be there in a heartbeat.” He mentioned that he would love to go back to the Clone Wars era with co-star Ewan McGregor, who memorably played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequel trilogy. “I think there are some fun stories there to tell,” he stated. “And if it meant I got to swing a lightsaber with Ewan again, that would be amazing.”
Another idea Hayden Christensen had was for a Darth Vader Disney+ series that takes place after Revenge of the Sith. He said,
“I think there’s some good, meaty stuff there to explore still. If the powers that be decided a Vader spin-off is something they want to see, I’d be there in a heartbeat. 100%. I would love to. It would be amazing to keep exploring this character in both eras.”
Indeed, a Vader series that takes place shortly after Revenge of the Sith would have plenty of potential. Vader would have to physically and mentally adjust to the breather suit, along with his new life serving the dark side. In addition, his grief from losing Padme would be raw and fresh. It could reveal all sorts of layers in his character and make for a genuinely heartbreaking story. Disney might want to listen to Hayden Christensen and consider making a series like this, particularly while Ian McDiarmid is still alive and able to play the Emperor.
As his Fan Expo Boston appearance shows, he loves being Anakin. In addition to his upcoming return for Ahsoka Season 2, he already made an appearance as Anakin’s ghost in Ahsoka Season 1. He also played both Anakin and Vader in the Disney+ miniseries Obi-Wan Kenobi. Even though he used to receive backlash from fans, by now the fanbase has warmed up to him. He gave a special introduction for the Revenge of the Sith theatrical rerelease earlier this year, and seeing him felt like seeing an old friend again. Here’s hoping he gets to don his Jedi robes or his Vader suit again.
