Everyone is eagerly awaiting the second season of Netflix's Wednesday, which is scheduled to return this year, and in a recent interview, Emma Myers discussed how star Jenna Ortega "looks out" for the cast as a producer.
"She’s very collaborative," the actress expressed to The Cut. "She always told me if there’s anything that I was uncomfortable with, anything I didn’t like, to come to her and she’ll bring it to the table. Her being a boss was definitely for the benefit of the cast."
Ortega has explained that the role of producer makes her feel "a bit more empowered to speak" her mind, reflecting on how she sometimes improvises when the scripts don't feel faithful to who Wednesday Addams is: "They [Tim Burton, Alfred Gough, and Miles Millar] trust me enough to know what Wednesday would think and do."
As for working with Burton, she would actually meet with him every morning while filming season 2: "Tim and I would talk with the writers, cross out lines, and they would supplement new ones."
"She has a very deep knowledge of niche pop culture and films," Myers, who can currently be seen in A Minecraft Movie, commented of her co-star. "She never makes me feel dumb about not knowing them."
Ortega recently opened up to Variety about how Myers makes her job "so much easier," sharing, "I think Emma and I have a similar professional stance and understanding of our job, so anytime we shot together, we could trust things to go completely smoothly. Season 1, we hit the ground running; Wednesday is pulled in every direction, and with Emma, shooting was just perfect. We also bonded over uncomfortable skin-tight cat costumes and taking naps on the floor of our tent during long days. We just understand each other. She became a sister of mine very quickly."
Along with A24's Death of a Unicorn, Ortega has many upcoming projects, including Hurry Up Tomorrow, Klara and the Sun, The Gallerist, and a new untitled J. J. Abrams movie, which will also star Glen Powell and Samuel L. Jackson.
"It all feels very top secret, but it is an original J.J. script with some fantasy elements," she revealed. "I don’t think I’ve ever been a part of a story like this so early on."
