John Wells Talks ‘Shameless’ Revival: ‘I Could Have Made That Show for Another 15 Years’
Paul Sarkis / Showtime / Everett Collection

Multiple Emmy-winner John Wells, one of TV’s most prolific producer/writer/directors, has a new series The Pitt, which stars Noah Wyle (ER), as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch.

The Max series tells the tale of medical personnel working in real-time emergency department shifts in fictional Pittsburgh (hence the show’s title) Trauma Medical Hospital.

Wells is no stranger to medical dramas, having executive produced the hugely successful, long-running series ER as well as China Beach and Third Watch.

One of his longest-running series was the American adaptation of the British series Shameless, which ran for a decade starting in 2011.

Shameless told the story of the Gallagher clan, headed by patriarch Frank Gallagher (Emmy and Golden Globe nominee William H. Macy). His children were Fiona (Emmy Rossum), Phillip a.k.a “Lip” (Jeremy Allen White), Ian (Cameron Monaghan), Debbie (Emma Kenney), Carl (Ethan Cutkosky), and Liam (Christian Isaiah; Brenden Sims). The family lived in Chicago’s South Side.

Despite alcoholic Frank’s ineffectiveness – or perhaps because of it – the Gallagher kids navigated through life by doing whatever was necessary to stay alive and get ahead. They changed friends, careers, and partners so often you needed a scorecard to keep up with their lives!

The series concluded with (how else?) Frank’s passing given the years of abuse he’d put his body through. Could the rest of the Gallagher clan come together again in a revival?

“We’ve talked about it,” Wells tells TV Insider exclusively. “[The show] was a great experience. I could have made that show for another 15 years.”

Currently, the entire run of Shameless can be streamed on Netflix. While Frank’s gone, his children still have plenty of stories to tell.

“We’ll see,” Wells says. “We haven’t had any more conversations about it. There are a couple of more years where we have the licensing fee from Warner Bros. to Netflix. When that comes up again, often times, they’ll say, ‘Hey, can we do something else?’”

Is Wells proud of the actors who played the Gallagher kids, who’ve gone on to other roles? “Oh, of course,” he says. “Jeremy [Allen White, now star of The Bear on Hulu] was only 18 or 19 when we cast him,” Wells says. “The same with Noah [Wylie when he started on ER]. He was 21.”

Viewers of ER recall the sometimes-strained relationship between Wylie’s John Carter, whom we first met as a third-year medical student, and Dr. Peter Benton (Eriq La Salle), one of his teachers. Are there similarities between the dynamic that Wylie’s Robby shares with younger medical personnel on The Pitt?

“I think there’s a sense of responsibility when you’re at a teaching hospital to teach and to be a mentor to everyone,” says Wells, pointing out there are other instructors among the medical personnel. “They’re all teaching as well. Everybody who works in a medical setting and teaching university are responsible for mentoring the young doctors underneath them.”

Intriguing News Regarding Caped Crusader Season 2

Batman: Caped Crusader is the latest retelling of the legendary Dark Knight’s saga. It follows the classic tale of the hero combating Gotham City’s criminal underworld. And he must also contend with deadly supervillains and the law. At the same time, he faces his internal demons and learns the meaning of justice. Fans immensely enjoyed the show despite having reservations about certain aspects. Yet it did set up for an exciting Season Two, which is currently in production. But what do we know about this upcoming installment of this animated DC series? Talking About Batman: Caped Crusader Produced by Bruce Timm, Batman: Caped Crusader takes place in a noir-styled Gotham City. And, of course, it follows the young billionaire Bruce Wayne and his vigilante escapades. The twist is we’re witnessing the starting stages of his superhero career. He’s broody, serious, and emotionally distant from others, including his faithful butler Alfred. Additionally, his constant crusading puts him in danger of becoming like the fiends he faces. Nevertheless, Bruce continues his crimefighting efforts to protect Gotham and its citizens. His actions, unfortunately, make him the police department’s number one target. He has allies, though, such as Commissioner Gordon and his public defender daughter Barbara. Season One comes with a cavalcade of foes for the Dark Knight to face. There are renowned favorites like Clayface, Harley Quinn, Two-Face, and a female version of Penguin. It even brought in some obscure ones like Gentleman Ghost, Nocturna, and Onomatopoeia. In the end, it leads up to the arrival of Batman’s most prominent nemesis. Information Regarding Season Two’s Production Season Two of Batman: Caped Crusader has been in production for almost a year now. During this time, a slew of exciting updates have hit the newsfeeds. One of which is the confirmation that Jamie Chung is returning as Harley Quinn. She even expressed interest in seeing her character interacting with Joker. Michella C. Bonilla, who plays Detective Renne Montoya, is also confirmed to come back. The most recent news, however, revolves around renowned comic writer J.M. DeMatteis. In his summer newsletter, he revealed he penned an episode for Season Two. He also expressed delight in helping contribute to this show in that same announcement. DeMatteis has written numerous Marvel comics and even wrote Justice League International for DC Comics. So it’ll be interesting to see what he did for this animated Batman series. Final Thoughts I binge-watched Batman: Caped Crusader one night long ago and liked it. The darker and grittier atmosphere captivated my attention, as did the noir aesthetic. It especially surprised me to hear cursing and witness straight murder in this series. The whole show feels like Batman: The Animated Series for adults, and I like it! As you can guess, I’m excited and ready to watch Batman: Caped Crusader Season Two. I’m especially thrilled that we’re likely getting Joker since he appeared during the finale. I cannot wait to see him clash and challenge the fledgling Caped Crusader. Nonetheless, we won’t know for sure until the season premieres, supposedly later this year.

Padres Officially Release Veteran After Disappointing Season

The San Diego Padres announced Wednesday that they released veteran catcher Martin Maldonado, who was designated for assigment last week. The writing was on the wall when the Padres acquired Freddy Fermin from the Kansas City Royals at last Thursday's trade deadline, upending their catching tandem. Fermin, 30, immediately got the opportunity to take the lion's share of innings behind the plate that he was never going to get in Kansas City. The Padres designated Maldonado for assignment in a corresponding roster move, ending the 38-year-old's tenure in San Diego. Maldonado hit .204 with four home runs and 12 RBIs in 64 games, splitting time with Elias Diaz. The 2019 American League Gold Glove Award winner, Maldonado has played 1,230 games for seven different organizations since his 2011 debut. Maldonado is a career .203/.277/.343 hitter with the Milwaukee Brewers (2011-16), Angels (2017-18), Houston Astros (2018-23), Royals (2019), Chicago Cubs (2019), Chicago White Sox (2024) and Padres (2025). More to come on this story from Padres on SI.

Palworld Studio Adds Another 'Exciting Game' to Its Growing List of Hits

Palworld Studio’s publishing division seems to have a knack for grabbing attention lately, and they’re not slowing down. The studio behind the highly anticipated monster-collecting survival game Palworld just announced they’ve signed yet another “very exciting game” to their lineup. And yes, we’re all ears—though we’re still trying to figure out how they balance releasing one banger after another without breaking a sweat. Their latest announcement follows hot on the heels of their impressive work backing a new horror game featuring talent tied to Baldur’s Gate 3 and Final Fantasy. It seems their publishing arm is becoming the go-to for delivering games that make players pause their beloved playthroughs and say, “Alright, fine, take my money.” What’s next, world domination? At this rate, we wouldn’t be surprised. Palworld’s Publishing Momentum is Unstoppable It’s no secret that Palworld itself has been a major talking point in the gaming sphere. This isn’t just your average monster-collecting game; it’s a delightfully chaotic mashup of Pokémon-like creature taming mixed with dystopian survival elements. And yes, you can wield guns while standing alongside your adorable (and potentially exploitable) pals. If that doesn’t scream absurd fun, what does? But what’s intriguing about Palworld Studio is how their publishing arm continues to expand with titles that don’t just ride on the coattails of Palworld’s buzz. Instead, they’re curating a diverse collection of innovative games that somehow scream “this is worth your time” even before you hit the download button. It’s becoming apparent that they’ve tapped into something most publishers can only dream of. From Horror to Hopeful Anticipation The recent horror game they helped bring to life is evidence of Palworld’s ability to pick winners. Featuring developers with experience on mammoth titles like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Final Fantasy, this game blurred the line between spine-tingling chills and jaw-dropping visuals. The kind of game that makes you want to leave the lights on, but also keeps you glued to the screen. This success wasn’t just a one-off. It proved that their publishing arm isn’t about quantity for the sake of it, but about finding games with real potential to connect with audiences. And now, with the news of their next “exciting game” signing, the studio is making it clear they’re not just a one-hit (Palworld) wonder. What Makes Palworld Studio Unique? What’s refreshing about the Studio is that they’re building a reputation not only for their own creations but also for their keen eye as a publisher. They’re choosing projects that feel distinct, well-crafted, and most importantly, fun. This combination of bold decision-making and a knack for gaming trends is likely why they’ve been so successful in catching the attention of hardcore gamers and casual players alike. While some publishers flood the market with games that feel like clones of one another, Palworld seems laser-focused on quality and originality. Whether it’s through survival horror or creature-collecting madness, they’re ensuring that each game they touch carves its own identity in the vast gaming landscape. What’s the Mystery Game? Of course, the identity of their latest “very exciting game” is still under wraps, and we’re left to speculate (read “obsessively refresh the news feed”) about what it could be. Is it another survival title? A new RPG with mind-blowing mechanics? Or perhaps something totally out of left field? The one thing we do know is that Palworld Studio has already proven its ability to deliver. Their track record alone is enough to keep gamers invested, and whatever this new project is, expectations are sky-high. No pressure, right? What Does the Future Hold for Palworld Studio? With Palworld still riding a tidal wave of hype and their publishing portfolio growing stronger with every announcement, it’s safe to say Palworld Studio has carved a spot for themselves as a major player in the industry. And if their next project lands as well as their previous efforts, they might just redefine everyone’s expectations for what a modern game studio and publisher can achieve. While we wait (impatiently) for their sensational mystery game to be revealed, all eyes are on Palworld. Will their unique blend of chaos and charm live up to the hype when it eventually drops? Judging by their track record, we’re willing to bet on it. Why Palworld Should Be On Your Radar If you haven’t been following the studio’s meteoric rise, you’re missing out. Whether it’s their quirky and ambitious Palworld or their growing list of well-crafted published games, everything this studio touches seems to turn into a hit. And with their latest announcement promising yet another gem on the horizon, there’s never been a better time to keep Palworld Studio on your radar (and your wishlist). Stay tuned, because if one thing’s clear about Palworld Studio, it’s that they’re just getting started.

Dream Dealt Unfortunate News on Brittney Griner on Thursday

Neck pain isn’t usually headline news, unless it belongs to Brittney Griner. Atlanta Dream fans hoping for another dominant night on Thursday just had their mood checked. Griner is officially out again, and suddenly that winning streak feels a little more fragile. The Dream hit the road to face the struggling Chicago Sky, a team sitting at 8-21 and already missing rookie standout Angel Reese. But while the Sky limp into Wintrust Arena, the Dream aren’t walking in at full strength either. On Wednesday, the team ruled out Griner for a third straight game due to her lingering neck injury. According to the WNBA’s official injury report, she’s still not ready for game action. Griner’s absence is a blow. The nine-time All-Star has been averaging 10.6 points and 5.6 boards while shooting over 51 percent from the field this season. She signed with Atlanta as a free agent this offseason, helping turn the Dream into a serious contender after last year’s playoff sneak-in. But with their star center on the bench again, the Dream will have to get creative, and gritty. Brionna Jones, Naz Hillmon Set to Step Up With Griner out, Atlanta is expected to lean on Brionna Jones and Naz Hillmon to carry the frontcourt load. Jones, another offseason addition, has already started taking on a bigger role. The team will need her presence inside to stretch the Sky’s defense and crash the boards. It’s not all gloom, though. Griner’s "doubtful" tag before last week’s Mercury game was the same story, and she’s reportedly getting closer to a return. But Atlanta’s not taking risks with their veteran star, and they shouldn't. Still, with Rhyne Howard also sidelined due to a knee issue, the Dream are down two primary weapons. That makes Thursday’s game less about comfort and more about character.
