Luke Newton is set to portray the late Lee Alexander McQueen in Darrah Cloud's House of McQueen. The new off-Broadway production will start previews on Tuesday, August 19, at The Mansion at Hudson Yards, followed by the official opening scheduled for Tuesday, September 9.
Sam Helfrich will direct while Rick Lazes executive produces. Gary James McQueen, the fashion designer's nephew, is the creative director.
The play will take guests through Lee’s layered individual experience, from his early days as an emerging designer, to later building one of the most important fashion houses in the world, and ultimately his tragic passing in 2010. Within the performance, intimate relationships with key figures in his life ranging from mentor Isabella Blow to blood relatives will be explored surrounded by a highly produced landscape complete with floor-to-ceiling LED panels designed to shift environments on stage.
"It is our absolute pleasure to announce Luke's involvement with House of McQueen," Lazes said, according to Deadline. "We can’t think of anyone better suited to bring Lee's story to life than this incredibly impressive multi-hyphenate."
The actor is widely recognized for his role as Colin Bridgerton on Netflix's Bridgerton, and while he has starred in the hit romance series since the first season, he served as the lead alongside Nicola Coughlan for season 3, which told Colin and Penelope's love story. The show's upcoming fourth season will be released in 2026 with an exact premiere date to be announced, and the streaming platform has already renewed Bridgerton for two additional seasons.
As for his other stage credits in London, Newton was in The Book of Mormon and Neil LaBute's The Shape of Things.
