Mason Gooding, A returning Scream star, just dropped some big news on Scream 7, the next slasher film in the horror franchise. The series is headed back to the suburbs after taking on The Big Apple two years ago in Scream 6. Mason Gooding will return as Chad-Meeks Martin in the movie.

Mason Gooding Drops Major Hints About Scream 7

Look, we all knew Scream 7 was going to shake things up after the absolute chaos surrounding Scream 6, but Mason Gooding just gave us some pretty interesting tidbits about what to expect. And honestly? It sounds like Ghostface is trading the concrete jungle for suburban nightmares. Here’s where things get genuinely exciting: Kevin Williamson, the mastermind who created this whole twisted universe back in 1996, is stepping behind the camera as director.

During a recent chat with Us Weekly, Mason Gooding—who’s reprising his role as Chad Meeks-Martin for what feels like the millionth time at this point—described the upcoming slasher in a way that has horror fans licking their fingers for Scream 7.  He said, “ll say the movie is domestic, I’ll say it’s homely and unconventional.” In addition, Gooding raved about working with Williamson.

He said, “From a creative standpoint, he is the dream, because he created that world. Gooding also explained, “Having a level of understanding and world-building and in the background and ethos of just the concept in general of Scream, was incredibly gratifying and also led to a greater understanding of the lifeblood of the series as a whole.” Fans were treated to news about the film from Williamson himself earlier when Scream 7 went into production.

Translation: Finally, someone who gets what makes Scream work is calling the shots. After the franchise ping-ponged between different directors like a horror movie hot potato, having Williamson take control feels like coming home—if home happened to be filled with masked killers and meta-commentary about horror tropes. The casting choices for Scream 7 are telling us everything we need to know about this “domestic” angle.

Joel McHale has been tapped to play Sidney Prescott’s husband, Mark, while Isabel May will portray her daughter. This isn’t just random casting—it’s a clear signal that the franchise is diving headfirst into Sidney’s family dynamics. Think about it: Sidney has spent decades running from her past, building a life away from the Ghostface madness. But in classic Scream fashion, you can’t outrun your demons forever.

Final Thoughts

The suburban setting makes perfect sense when you consider that Sidney would want normalcy, safety, and all those domestic comforts that make a house feel like home. The domestic setting promises a return to the franchise’s roots—intimate, personal horror that hits close to home. After all, there’s nothing quite like being stalked by a killer in the place where you’re supposed to feel safest. In addition to the cast, we’re getting Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Scott Foley, Matthew Lillard, and Jasmin Savoy Brown.
