Maya Rudolph's band opened for Alanis Morissette on her 'Jagged Little Pill' tour

This sounds like a skit starring Maya Rudolph, but it's a true story from the Emmy-winning actress's pre- Saturday Night Live days.

Rudolph explained to a befuddled Kelly Clarkson how she found herself opening for Alanis Morissette on her Jagged Little Pill tour in 1995:

A boilerplate: the 48-year-old was fresh out of college when her childhood friendship with The Haden Triplets led to the opportunity. "For a month, I lived on a bus and went everywhere that Alanis went and watched the Jagged Little Pills show every night, and it was insane because it was the beginning of that time," Rudolph said, noting they also went bowling and played hacky sack together.

Jagged Little Pill claimed album of the year and best rock album at the 38th Grammy Awards, where "You Oughta Know" also cleaned up in the best female rock vocal performance and best rock song categories.

Morissette announced June 1 the rescheduled dates for her 25th anniversary Jagged Little Pill tour, and she went ahead and dropped a new "On The Road Again" duet with Willie Nelson while she was at it:

The Canadian icon most recent album, Such Pretty Forks in the Road, was released July 31, 2020.
