MCU’s Spider-Man Embraces Exciting Practical Effects and Real Stunts in ‘Brand New Day’

The MCU’s Spider-Man: No Way Home was challenged with COVID restrictions, but Brand New Day will have no limits! They’re pulling out all the stops, and we’ve gathered the thrilling details right here.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

The next installment in the Spider-Verse starts after the events of No Way Home, where Peter Parker (Tom Holland) made the painful decision for Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to cast the spell that made everyone forget he existed. We don’t have a plot for Brand New Day, that’s being kept secret, but some details have been revealed that give us some hints!

First, there’s the rumor from Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus on Discord. He said that Marvel Studios is prepping for “one of the MCU’s biggest, if not the biggest, stunt sequences for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” We know that they’re starting shooting in Glasgow, Scotland, and unlike No Way Home, they’re shooting on location instead of on sound stages. Check out what Tom Holland told Flip Your Wig:

“I’m obviously over the moon and so excited. Playing Spider-Man is like hanging out with an old pal, and I think we were really restricted with what we could do in the last movie because of COVID. We shot the entire film on stages. Now, we’re really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations, which is why we’re starting in Glasgow.”

What’s The Big Deal?

Based on the info shared by Perez, the big scene he wrote about is a big action sequence with real stunts and explosions! We’re talking about street-level action here. And, there’s the Hulk! Rumor has it that Mark Ruffalo and his Hulk are joining Spider-Man. Ruffalo revealed that Kevin Feige asked what he wanted to do with the Hulk.

“I said, ‘Well, I’d like to take him from this raging maniac to kind of this integrated character.’ And he’s like, ‘Okay. We’ll do that over the course of four movies.'”

So, no stand-alone movie for Hulk, but we’ll have a big treat when he appears in more MCU productions.

Anything Else?

What we don’t know is a lot: no plot, no villain yet. But we do know that Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon will be part of the cast. And Jon Bernthal is listed in the cast, so it looks like Punisher will be fighting alongside Spider-Man. Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) and Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear, IF) have joined the cast, though we don’t know their characters yet either.
