Casting news for HBO’s 'Harry Potter' has trickled out in recent months, from John Lithgow and Nick Frost to a slate of young actors who may become household names through the series. One familiar face from the original films will also return — though definitely not director Chris Columbus.
Warwick Davis is set to reprise his role in the wizarding world.
In the 'Harry Potter' films, Warwick Davis played two characters: Professor Filius Flitwick and Griphook, the goblin banker. For HBO’s upcoming series, Davis will return only as Flitwick. The decision to retain at least one familiar casting choice suggests the producers were open to bringing back other actors, though many may have aged out of their roles, or simply moved on with their careers in film.
Davis has built one of the most recognizable careers of any character actor working in fantasy and science fiction. He first broke through as the title hero in 1988’s 'Willow,' after an early role in 'Return of the Jedi,' and went on to appear in multiple 'Star Wars' films across decades. In addition to his 'Harry Potter' franchise, he has led the cult-favorite 'Leprechaun' horror films, worked extensively on British television, and embraced comedy with Ricky Gervais on 'Life’s Too Short,' all while becoming a champion for representation of actors with dwarfism in Hollywood. Flitwick appeared throughout the movies, giving Davis a potentially significant role in the new series.
