Netflix has officially renewed Wednesday for a third season, cementing the supernatural hit as one of the streamer’s biggest franchises.
The announcement comes just weeks ahead of Season 2’s August 6 premiere and includes even more good news for fans: a secretive spin-off series is also in development.
Starring Jenna Ortega as the gothic, sharp-witted Wednesday Addams, the show quickly became a global sensation. Season 1 shattered Netflix records with over 250 million views, making it the platform’s most-watched original series of all time. It also earned 12 Emmy nominations, including a Lead Actress nod for Ortega, whose deadpan delivery and viral dance moves turned her into a Gen Z icon.

Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar and executive produced by Tim Burton, Wednesday reimagines the iconic Addams Family universe through a modern horror-comedy lens. The story follows Wednesday after she’s expelled from her normie school and sent to Nevermore Academy, a private institution for supernatural outcasts. Between solving mysteries, navigating friendships and occasionally raising the dead, Wednesday carved out her place in pop culture one scowl at a time.
Season 2 brings back familiar faces like Gwendoline Christie, Emma Myers, and Riki Lindhome, while promoting Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, and Isaac Ordonez to series regulars. New cast members include Billie Piper, Steve Buscemi, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, and Noah Taylor.
While Netflix remains tight-lipped about the upcoming spin-off, both Burton and Ortega confirmed its existence in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter. What it’s about—and who it will follow—is still under wraps.
For now, fans can look forward to more of Wednesday’s macabre charm, deadpan wit, and sinister adventures. And if early indicators are any clue, Season 2 might be even darker, weirder and more addictive than the last.
