Lionsgate has just shared the official logo for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which is the latest prequel in Suzanne Collins' book series.
While at CinemaCon, director Francis Lawrence, who helmed Catching Fire, Mockingjay - Part 1, Mockingjay - Part 2, and The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, revealed, "We’re really just getting into the casting process right now. We’re very excited. We’ve been working on this draft for a year. We start shooting in July."
THE HUNGER GAMES: SUNRISE ON THE REAPING will revisit the world of Panem 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games, starting on the morning of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.
In the video, Woody Harrelson, who originally played Haymitch Abernathy, can be heard saying, "I think these games are gonna be different." The story follows a younger version of his character, who competes in the 50th Hunger Games. However, it is possible that Harrelson will appear alongside co-stars Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence in the epilogue, if that is included.
Forty-eight tributes. One victor.

More than 1.5 million copies of Sunrise on the Reaping were sold in the first week, which is the biggest opening ever for the blockbuster series and triple the first week sales of Mockingjay. Lawrence shared that this will be a "return to form for the kinds of films we love from this book series" before commenting, "We have an iconic character from the series, someone who’s really easy to empathize [with]."
As for the arena, he teased that it will be spectacular. Billy Ray, who co-wrote the first movie, will return to write the screenplay. Lawrence, Nina Jacobson, and Brad Simpson will produce.
Jacobson told Variety, "You don’t know what the fans are going to respond to, so you just put yourself very easily in their shoes as one of them. I cannot wait to get to hear from them and to see what speaks to them. We do have such a smart and sophisticated fan base that they were able to speculate. They speculated about a lot of things, and I can’t wait for them to match their speculations up with the book. It’s been super thrilling and really rewarding. You feel like you’re planning a big surprise party."
Sunrise on the Reaping hits theaters on November 20, 2026.
