What do you do with a woman like Adele?
These days, after a few grueling, world-conquering album cycles, her chosen activity appears to be chilling at home and twerking yourself silly while watching Beyoncé perform at Coachella. This is a far cry from, say, 2007, when Adele joined one of her XL Records label mates, Jack Penate, to play a radio session in an empty hotel room. My, how the times have changed.
Born on the 5th of May, 1988 in Tottenham, London, Adele's journey from humble aspiring A&R student to one of the best-selling pop artists of all time has been nothing short of remarkable. She's had her ups and downs, but her well-written songs and stunning vocal prowess have made her stand out from the pack, which she's cleverly played to her advantage. For example, during the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards when, upon seeing who was performing before and after her, she and her management decided to make a deliberate "contrast" to the overstimulated evening by adding her calm, stately ballad "Someone Like You." It shot to the top of the charts immediately afterwards
So in honor of her 30th birthday, let's get inspired and look at all of the astonishing things Adele has accomplished, up to and including setting fire to the rain.
