Tanner Buchanan, Garrett Wareing, and Quvenzhané Wallis will lead Alexander J. Farrell's Hide and Don’t Speak. The new supernatural horror thriller is now in pre-production, with filming planned to begin later this year. The script comes from Farrell and Greer Ellison, and is loosely based on hitori kakurenbo, according to Variety.
The synopsis shares that six teenagers "play a terrifying viral Japanese game in which the players summon a vengeful spirit for a deadly round of hide-and-seek."
"We wanted to take something innocent, break it wide open, and unleash real fear. This isn’t just a game, it’s a bloodbath. We’re thrilled to be partnering with Range and Mister Smith to bring this nightmare to life on the big screen," the director explained.
This will mark the first movie out of Range Media's new genre slate, which was started in the shingle's London offices and will be supervised by Reich.

Producers Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Fred Berger, and Matt Coatsworth expressed, “When Alex and Greer first brought us the seed of this idea a year ago, we were instantly gripped. Hide and Don’t Speak is terrifying, wildly entertaining, and deliciously unhinged — we can’t wait for audiences to experience the ride."
Buchanan recently wrapped six seasons of Cobra Kai, starring as Robby Keene. Wareing can be seen as Lucas Russell in Netflix's new series, Ransom Canyon. Wallis is recognized for Beasts of the Southern Wild, for which she earned the youngest nomination ever for the Best Actress Academy Award.
Mister Smith will handle the international sales, while UTA and Range Select co-rep the U.S. rights. Mister Smith Entertainment’s David Garrett commented, “This is such a supremely smart yet simple horror story that shows a truly terrifying interpretation of the children’s game. And with the filmmaking team’s unparalleled provenance in the horror genre, this has all the makings of a must-see theatrical experience.”
