For a one-night-only charity event, the cast of Dawson's Creek will share the stage to benefit F Cancer and James Van Der Beek, who shared his Stage 3 colorectal cancer diagnosis last November.
The event will take place at Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York and be called "The Dawson's Creek Class Reunion." Featured cast members include Van Der Beek, Michelle Williams, Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, Mary Beth Peil, John Wesley Shipp, Mary-Margaret Humes, Nina Repeta, Kerr Smith, Meredith Monroe, and Busy Phillips. They will perform a live reading of the show's pilot episode together.
Dawson's Creek alumnus Jason Moore serves as director. Since Phillips, Smith, and Monroe all joined the series after the first season, they will read various roles throughout the script. Carl Ogawa, Jason Moore, Michelle Williams, Thomas Kail, Maggie Brohn, Kevin Williamson, and Greg Berlanti are producing.
"I am so excited to reunite with James, Michelle, Katie, Joshua, and our Dawson's Creek family for such a special night. Dawson's Creek changed my life,” Williamson shared in a statement. "What began as a personal story about a young man and his friends navigating their way through the challenges of life became so much more than I ever dreamed. It created an enduring fandom and legacy all over the world. I am so honored to be a part of it and to support our beautiful friend, James, as we continue to navigate our way through life and its many challenges."
The actor, who portrayed Jen Lindley, then expressed, "We grew up in Capeside and that’s a bond that will last a lifetime. We wanted to gather around our dear friend James and remind him that we are all here. We always have been and we always will be. And I know the fans of Dawson's Creek feel the same way."
In 2015, Yael Cohen and Julie Greenbaum united their individual entities into one non-profit, F Cancer, which focuses on prevention, early detection, and supporting those affected by cancer.
"We couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with the cast of Dawson's Creek to emphasize the importance of routine cancer screenings and being your own biggest health advocate," CEO Dr. Heather Kun commented. "Cancer screening is crucial because it can detect certain cancers at an early stage before symptoms appear, significantly improving outcomes and saving lives."
You can purchase tickets at Broadway Direct on Friday, August 22, at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET.
