CBS is going through quite the revamp. We've relayed the news that the network has decided to cancel two of Dick Wolf's "FBI" spinoffs. Then, there was the additional news that CBS was canceling "S.W.A.T." for the third time. While the network is still awash in procedurals, one of its sitcoms is now staring down the end of its run. "The Neighborhood" is coming to an end.
However, don't fret too much if you are a fan of the sitcom starring Cedric the Entertainer and Max Greenfield as mismatched neighbors. CBS has given the show the chance to end things with some foresight. "The Neighborhood" was renewed for an eighth season, but also told that said season would be its last. With the seventh season currently airing, the writers and producers will be able to bring "The Neighborhood" to a proper close. CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach shares that sentiment, saying, "We believe the show’s loyal fans deserve a proper farewell season full of the trademark humor and heartfelt moments that are synonymous with the series."
All things considered, eight seasons is a long run for a sitcom. That is especially true for a sitcom that started with a premise like "The Neighborhood." After seasons worth of episodes, the mismatched neighbors become decidedly less and less mismatched. Even so, the remake of the CBS lineup continues. It's possible the universe (such as it is) of "The Neighborhood" will remain part of it. There has been talk of a spinoff, though it has not been officially announced as part of the upcoming CBS lineup. They have time to figure that out. There is one season of "The Neighborhood" left, after all.
