Three rings for the Elven-kings under the sky. And, for now, three seasons for Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Yes, although we all suspected that this would be the case, The Rings of Power has been officially renewed for season three, and we are so glad to hear it! (At Nerdist, we’re huge fans of the show.) We may have even learned a little something about the plot. The Rings of Power season 3 will feature a time skip that will bring us into the thick of the action. From where we left things, just after the siege of Eregion, we’ll be skipping forward in time right into the heat of a new battle. The Rings of Power season 3 will see our favorite characters in the midst of The War of the Elves and Sauron. What does that mean? And what do we know about The Rings of Power season three so far? Let’s forge ahead and see!
The Rings of Power Season 3 Has Been Renewed and Shares a Logline
The official logline for The Rings of Power season 3 is as follows, “Jumping forward several years from the events of season 2, season 3 takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last.“
It sounds like when we return to the newly renewed The Rings of Power, we’ll find ourselves deep in war and right on the cusp of something truly horrifying happening: the forging of the One Ring. As The Rings of Power‘s showrunners Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne revealed to us, Sauron doesn’t yet have the knowledge to forge his own Ring of Power when we leave him in season two.
They note, “Sauron needs Celebrimbor’s expertise to forge the Rings. He cannot make them alone. It would be cheating for Sauron to all of a sudden be able to make a Ring. He’s on his own journey of craftsmanship, and without Celebrimbor, now having to make a Ring is a potentially really interesting challenge for him.” And it sounds like he’ll still be on that journey when season three of The Rings of Power returns.
The Rings of Power will Have a Time Skip Between Season 2 and Season 3
To avoid lulls in the action, The Rings of Power season 3 will move forward in time now that it has been renewed and have a pretty major time skip. But when you have Tolkien’s timelines and elves in play, that makes a lot of sense. In the real world, we can’t be waiting hundreds of years between events, or even just five. The Rings of Power‘s showrunners noted to us, “Season one and two almost are one roaring train. I think the aspiration would be that there might be some big gaps in time later.” And now this has come to pass.
In The Lord of the Rings‘ world The War of the Elves and Sauron was the first great war fought in the Second Age of Middle-earth between, well, the elves and Sauron. The Númenóreans, too, have quite a significant role to play in this battle as they are the elves’ main allies, preventing Sauron’s forces from decimating them. Of course, where the Númenóreans loyalties lie (primarily to themselves with Ar-Pharazôn at the helm) could complicate matters… Especially since Sauron has Rings of Power for men that he is just itching to hand out.
Where Season 3 of The Rings of Power Could Be Heading?
With The Rings of Power safely renewed for season three and a confirmed time skip, it’s time to speculate what the season will entail. Look away if you are spoiler-phobic. Personally, we’ve always thought that Sauron would be taken to Númenór by Ar-Pharazôn at the end of season three of The Rings of Power. We know he ends up there eventually to cause the island A LOT of trouble.
But Sauron’s captivity doesn’t actually occur at the end of the War of the Elves and Sauron. The War of the Elves and Sauron actually ends with Sauron’s defeat and retreat into Mordor to recover. After that come a series of battles that then culminate in Sauron’s surrender to the forces of Númenór and Ar-Pharazôn. Arguably, this could be termed a willing surrender (for chaos purposes), but Tolkien doesn’t go into too much nuance here. That will be left up to the Prime Video’s The Rings of Power. In Tolkien’s lore, Sauron had already forged the One Ring by this time. It’ll be interesting to see if The Rings of Power season 3 knits the lore together to bring events a little closer.

A release from Prime Video confirms that The Rings of Power has indeed been renewed for season three. It further shares that three directors will helm the upcoming season. The release notes of the directors, “two returning and one new, Charlotte Brändström, Sanaa Hamri, and Stefan Schwartz will be a part of this season.” We’re so excited to see Brändström, who directed The Rings of Power season two’s most epic battle episodes, back in the driver’s seat. And, of course, we are thrilled to see Sanaa Hamri return. Stefan Schwartz also has an impressive resume, including The Boys (Prime Video), The Walking Dead (AMC), Luther (BBC), and The Americans (FX) and we’re sure he’ll do amazing work.

Can LeBron James Be Traded to the Dallas Mavericks?
This year’s NBA offseason could see a lightning strike in the near future. The Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus has suggested a new, three-team trade between the Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets that would send LeBron James, alongside his son Bronny James, to Dallas in a dramatic, yet significant deal to reshape all three teams’ futures. Here’s why. LeBron James to the Dallas Mavericks LeBron James opted into his $52.6 million player option for the 2025-26 NBA season. However, James’ decision was met with skepticism by several NBA executives. Some NBA insiders expected James, 40, to opt out and sign a one-plus-one deal. The decision drove chatter of possible discontent and a potential end to his Lakers run. James holds one of the NBA’s rare no-trade clauses. Therefore, James can decide where he would land. Multiple NBA insiders have said that the Dallas Mavericks are high on James’ list. Joining the Mavericks would allow James to reunite with Kyrie Irving, join forces with Anthony Davis again, and play under Jason Kidd, who served as an assistant coach during the Lakers’ 2020 NBA championship run. James, Mavericks Outlook LeBron James is 40 years old and will turn 41 on December 30, 2025. However, James is still playing like a top-tier NBA player. If the Dallas Mavericks acquire James, the Mavericks could receive star power, shot creation, and veteran leadership. A Mavericks goal appears to be winning while the team’s NBA championship window is still open. The Mavericks would receive LeBron James (via Lakers), Bronny James (via Lakers), Drew Timme (via Nets), Tyrese Martin (via Nets), a $1.8 million trade exception, and a $1.1 million trade exception. The Mavericks could benefit from a solid core of James, Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, Cooper Flagg and Dereck Lively II. The Lakers would receive Daniel Gafford (via Mavericks), PJ Washington (via Mavericks), Naji Marshall (via Mavericks), Caleb Martin (via Mavericks), Jaden Hardy (via Mavericks), a 2030 Los Angeles Lakers second-round pick (via Nets), a 2031 Los Angeles Lakers second-round pick (via Nets) and a $24.1 million trade exception. The Lakers could start the Luka Doncic era. The Brooklyn Nets would receive Dalton Knecht (via Lakers), Maxi Kleber (via Lakers), Olivier-Maxence Prosper (via Mavericks) and Dwight Powell (via Mavericks). The Nets would serve as a facilitator, as the team would acquire assets while helping two contenders shift money around, and perhaps cash considerations. Final Thoughts It’s highly unlikely that LeBron James will be traded to the Dallas Mavericks. However, nothing can be ruled out. The NBA world saw the Luka Doncic trade to the Los Angeles Lakers this past February, and if they’re old enough to remember, the Jason Kidd trade to the Phoenix Suns in December 1996. If and when James is traded to Dallas, James’ presence can help the Mavericks succeed. James can help improve team chemistry, instill confidence in the team, and build a winning culture. James can play multiple positions as a forward, but a huge concern would be James’ declining gameplay and shooting stats.
New suitor emerges for Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez
The Arizona Diamondbacks have plenty of suitors for third baseman Eugenio Suarez. A new team has reportedly entered the market for his services. Scott Lauber of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the Phillies have reached out regarding Suarez. While Lauber did not provide any indication as to whether or not those talks have gained traction, the Phillies are an intriguing suitor for the Diamondbacks' third baseman. The Phillies' interest may be a recent development. Jon Heyman of the New York Post speculated on Friday that the Phillies could emerge as a suitor in the wake of third baseman Alec Bohm landing on the injured list with a fractured left rib. Suarez is in the midst of what is arguably his best season thus far. He has produced a .249/.321/.587 batting line in 421 plate appearances entering Saturday with 36 homers and a major league-leading 87 RBI. Suarez would be more than just another powerful bat in the lineup. Designated hitter Kyle Schwarber and first baseman Bryce Harper are both left-handed hitters — adding Suarez would provide more balance in the batting order. He would also provide a counter against opposing managers bringing in a lefty reliever to face Schwarber and Harper. The biggest question would be how the Phillies would handle an eventual logjam on the roster. Bohm is expected to return from the IL in mid-August and would not have a clear path to regular at-bats if Suarez were acquired. Schwarber could theoretically return to left field to open up playing time at the DH spot, but his outfield defense is mediocre at best. However, as the Phillies are also looking to upgrade the outfield, where Max Kepler and Brandon Marsh have been disappointments, adding Suarez could solve several problems in one fell swoop.
