'This Is Really Strange': Nick Jonas Reflects On The Viral ‘Camp Rock 2’ Scene

In an exclusive interview with People, Nick Jonas couldn’t help but laugh about the ‘Camp Rock 2‘ scene that has captured the internet’s imagination. “I understand the impact the film had and has had,” Jonas shared.

“And I am super amused, I would say, by the clips from it that have since gone viral now on TikTok and other places.” With a smile, he added, “I’m going to say ‘amusing’ because I also think it’s hilarious. I remember thinking of that one in particular, the sort of stomp moment. I remember thinking while we were shooting, ‘This is really strange.’”

The scene features Demi Lovato’s character leading a group of campers in a synchronized routine of stomping, clapping, and marching. A sequence that has become both iconic and, in Jonas’s words, “really strange.”

Reflecting on the absurdity of it all, Jonas explained, “You just kind of go with it … it doesn’t have to make sense. And you expect to sort of be protected by the fact that the primary audience for something like that is adolescents and they won’t care as much.”

As social media breathes new life into this ‘Camp Rock 2‘ moment, Nick Jonas likens the experience to watching old home videos. “But then, of course, they all grow up! And it’s probably the same thing as if anybody else went back and watched their home videos from high school and college. It’s that, but for us, it’s pretty public,” he mused.

His ‘The Good Half‘ co-star, Alexandra Shipp, playfully teasing Jonas about the scene. “It’s a lot,” Shipp, commented with a laugh. Remembering her own experience watching ‘Camp Rock’ as a teenager, she added, “and being like, ‘Whoa, I really want to go to music camp!'”

But even she couldn’t deny the scene’s oddity, confirming, “None of it made any sense.” ‘”Also, there were moments where you’re just walking around with drumsticks. And I was like, ‘That’s cool.'”

‘The Good Half’ will be releasing on September 6.
