Watch: Chris Pratt's 'The Tomorrow War' trailer drops

The first glimpse at The Tomorrow War arrived today (April 28).

Amazon Prime Video dropped the first trailer for the Chris McKay-directed film:

In it, time travelers arrive to present day with a warning: "We are fighting a war 30 years in the future. Our enemy is not human." High school teacher Dan Forester (Chris Pratt) is drafted to help protect the human race from invading deadly space aliens alongside a scientist named Romeo Command (Yvonne Strahovski) and his estranged father named Slade (J.K. Simmons).

"Originally set for a theatrical release by Paramount Pictures, the film’s distribution rights were acquired by Amazon Studios due to the pandemic in a deal worth a reported $200 million," notes IndieWire.

This is just the latest iteration of Pratt's superhero-sized sci-fi jump he made post-Parks and Recreation. The 41-year-old first made the leap as Peter Quill/Star-Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise and became a mainstay in the Jurassic World franchise as well as Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019).

The Tomorrow War tees off what should be an impressive stretch as Jurassic World: Dominion and Thor: Love and Thunder are each expected in 2022, while the third installment of Guardians is due in 2023.

The Tomorrow War, written by Zach Dean, will hit Amazon Prime Video on July 2.
