Watch Chris Pratt's world flip upside down in new 'Tomorrow War' official trailer

Imagine going to a Christmas party and receiving a draft order for a future war against aliens instead of, you know, merriment and eggnog.

That is Dan Forester's (Chris Pratt) reality in the official The Tomorrow War trailer.

Dan, a high school teacher, arrives at a Christmas house party. He sits on the couch cozily and peacefully with his daughter, Muri (Ryan Kiera Armstrong), and wife, Emmy (Betty Giplin), when suddenly the television spazzes out to announce anyone's worst nightmare.

"We are fighting a war 30 years in the future," Lieutenant Hart (Jasmine Mathews) says. "Our enemy is not human. We need you to fight."

Muri realizes that her dad has been drafted into this 2051 war against invading aliens, but Dan assures her that he will be back. Emmy doesn't understand how this could be.

"Why is this happening?" she panics. "What about the teachers deferment and the veterans deferment?"

"If I don't go, they're going to draft you in my place," Dan reasons, "but if something does happen to me, you and Muri will be taken care of."

Dan is then reunited with his estranged father, Slade (J.K. Simmons), and taken to a headquarters to get prepared for the war. Off they go!

And as action footage flickers across the screen—bombs and fire and snipers—Lieutenant Hart is back with more warning: "In 11 months' time, all human beings in the future will be wiped from the face of the earth—unless you help us."

All Dan wants to do is protect his daughter, but as the official synopsis explains, "the fate of humanity relies on his ability to confront his past."

The Tomorrow War was written by Zach Dean and directed by Chris McKay. The sci-fi thriller also stars Yvonne Strahovski, Edwin Hodge, Sam Richardson, Keith Powers, and more.

Watch the full trailer below—with plenty of time to digest it before the movie hits Amazon Prime Video on July 2.
