James Gunn's Superman has officially landed in theaters, and as a tribute to the late Christopher Reeve, who starred as the Man of Steel in the 1978 movie and its three follow-ups, his son made a cameo as a reporter.
Will Reeve, who is an ABC News correspondent in real life, told Variety, "I think I am very deliberate about living my own life, making my own decisions, knowing that if I make the right decision, it will honor my parents, and I think that it was the right decision to do this in a way, to honor my parents."
He continued to express, "My family, they’re like, 'That’s super cool. I wish we could come,' but it was on a Wednesday. They have jobs. They’re like, 'We can’t make it, but go do a great job.' Everyone’s incredibly excited about it. We’re not gatekeepers of Superman. Our dad played this role in an incredibly enduring and culturally meaningful way, and that has stuck with people to present day. But that doesn’t mean he’s the only person who can be Superman, right? We’re rooting for everybody to succeed, to soar, if you will."
In 2025's Superman, which serves as DC Studios' first feature film, David Corenswet is taking over the iconic role.
In his signature style, James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.
The rest of the cast includes Nicholas Hoult, Rachel Brosnahan, Anthony Carrigan, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Mariìa Gabriela de Fariìa, Wendell Pierce, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Neva Howell, Alan Tudyk, Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi, and Isabela Merced.
