Charles Leclerc is known for his loyalty to Ferrari. He lives, breathes, and bleeds red; he is Italy’s ‘Il Predestinato’ and Maranello’s sun. And yet, despite all the history between him and the team, things may have gone too far, even for someone so devoted. New whispers suggest that he may be considering leaving Ferrari. This time, they seem to have more than a grain of truth within them.

Leclerc And Ferrari

The story of Leclerc and Ferrari is as poetic as it is tragic. He first came to the team in 2019, fulfilling the dream that had pushed him to excel in his motorsport career. After his first signing, he stayed with the team through thick and thin. When Ferrari was struggling, he worked twice as hard to make up for the car’s problems. When, at the beginning of 2022, the team managed to produce a championship-worthy car, he worked hard to extract everything he could from every weekend. How did they repay him? By taking a wrong turn in development and falling from the early-season glory.

Over the years, a lot has changed in Ferrari. Team principals were fired, drivers came and went, but Leclerc was the constant that seemed to keep the team grounded. His unwavering loyalty, in saying that he doesn’t just want to win, but wants to win in red, gave fans hope that better days were ahead. The problem was that time passed and the situation remained the same. The same loyalty that used to uplift the talented Monagesque began slowly but surely killing his promising career.

New Rumours

With all that said, it isn’t surprising that every so often rumours can be heard about Leclerc possibly looking for luck in other teams. So far, they have not come true, but given the team’s current situation, a common, and quite likely, pattern emerges among the reports.

It seems like Leclerc is going to give his team one last chance. There isn’t much Ferrari can achieve in 2025, but with the new 2026 regulations, they will begin with a completely clean slate. If they can prove to the driver that they have what it takes to start fighting at the front of the field, he will likely continue his Italian dream. On the other hand, if the new regulations bring nothing but further disappointment, the fans might see him in a color different than his signature red.

And if he decided to leave, where would he go? Exchanging a poorly performing team for a midfielder or a backmaker wouldn’t make much sense career-wise, so his only viable options are the top teams. The question is, who exactly will that be? According to paddock gossip, Mercedes is set to see a return to the very top due to their new engine. Aston Martin is also often mentioned among the possible top contenders, especially since their new car will be created, in a big part, by the immensely talented Adrian Newey. McLaren could be a possibility from a performance standpoint, but it isn’t certain whether the team would be willing to let go of one of their young stars.

Ferrari’s Faults

The ball is currently in Ferrari’s court. There is nothing more admirable than undying loyalty, but there comes a point when it simply isn’t enough. The team has repeatedly ignored Leclerc’s suggestions during races and shown a blatant lack of respect for his knowledge and experience. Year after year, they deliver mediocre cars and questionable strategies, making the Monegasque’s legacy suffer. It is only natural for him to get fed up.

Losing Leclerc would be a huge blow to the team. He is one of the best drivers on the current grid, and has proven again and again that he has what it takes to fight for wins, as long as he’s driving machinery capable of getting them. If he does leave, the team would surely express their disappointment with being ‘abandoned’, but the truth is, they will only have themselves to blame. They never should have put him in such an awful situation to begin with.

End Of My Leclerc Rant

This isn’t the first time Leclerc is rumoured to be looking at other possible options, and only time will tell if it will lead to any big changes. One thing is certain: Ferrari has received a final warning. How they decide to react might be the difference between keeping their best driver or forcing him to turn to their opponents.
