Highlights:
In a fiercely competitive F1 Singapore GP qualifying session, George Russell delivered when it mattered most, securing his pole position at the Marina Bay Circuit for Mercedes.
For much of Q3, it appeared Verstappen and the McLarens would lock out the front, but Russell strung together a near-perfect lap to claim top spot by the narrowest of margins. The result gives Mercedes a crucial boost heading into Sunday’s race.
Max Verstappen looked set to extend his run of poles, consistently topping the timesheets across practice and the early stages of qualifying, Yet, when it came to the final push, Russell found just enough to edge him out, relegating the Red Bull star to second.
McLaren, meanwhile, had promised more, Oscar Piastri managed third, but both he and Lando Norris could not match their earlier pace under the Marina Bay floodlights.

Ferrari may not have been in the pole fight, but there were positives to take. Lewis Hamilton, in only his first season with the team, looked strong in Q1 and Q2 and carried that momentum into Q3 to line up sixth. Charles Leclerc also secured a solid seventh, suggesting Ferrari may yet have a say in Sunday’s strategy battles.
Behind the lead pack, Kimi Antonelli impressed again, qualifying fourth ahead of Norris. Rookie Isack Hadjar and Ollie bearman continued their rise with eighth and ninth respectively, while Fernando Alonso rounded out the top ten, underlining the competitiveness of the field.
