Max Verstappen Returns to Nurburgring After ‘Franz Hermann’ Test

Max Verstappen is set for his long-awaited Nurburgring debut this weekend as he takes the final steps toward earning the Nordschleife license. The four-time F1 World Champion will begin with a mandatory theory day on Friday before hitting the legendary “Green Hell” on Saturday in race action.

Organizers of the Nurburgring Langstrecken Serie (NLS) have already issued a word of caution to the fans: arrive early. With Verstappen’s name on the entry list, heavy traffic and record crowds are expected around the historic circuit.

The secret ‘Franz Hermann’ test

This isn’t Verstappen’s first time navigating the Nordschleife. A few months ago, he secretly tested a GT3 car under the pseudonym “Franz Hermann.”

The alias was suggested by the Emil Frey Racing team, who partnered with Verstappen.Com Racing, as a way to protect the Dutchman’s privacy during his early laps.

The move quickly became a running joke in the paddock, but it underscored Verstappen's commitment to approaching the Nurburgring properly.

His debut this weekend marks the official step in that process, with the added pressure of doing it in front of thousands of fans.

A new challenge for the champion

While Verstappen has dominated F1, the Nordschleife presents a different kind of challenge. Known as one of the toughest circuits in the world, its 154 corners and unpredictable conditions test even the most seasoned drivers.
