Every year in the NCAA Tournament, there are some upsets. Some years have more than others, and 2024 saw No. 11 seed NC State make a stunning run to the Final Four.

Will there be a 15-seed like Florida Gulf Coast or St. Peter's that goes on a Cinderella run? Or will it be a fairly chalk bracket with the top seeds doing what they are supposed to do?

That remains to be seen, but some under-the-radar teams might make some noise.

NCAA college hoops analyst Andy Katz has revealed four "dark horse" teams that could make a run in this year's NCAA Tournament field.

Here are the teams he picked:

  • UCLA
  • UConn
  • Ole Miss
  • BYU

Is back-to-back national champion UConn really a dark horse? Well, the Huskies have underperformed all year long and enter as a No. 8 seed with a Round of 64 game against No. 9 Oklahoma in the first round.

BYU and Ole Miss are both a No. 6 seed while the UCLA Bruins are a No. 7 seed and face a tough Utah State squad in the first round.

Here are the top four seeds in each of these teams' respective regions, respectively:

  • South Region, Ole Miss: Auburn, Michigan State, Iowa State, Texas A&M
  • West Region, UConn: Florida, St. John's, Texas Tech, Maryland
  • East Region, BYU: Duke, Alabama, Wisconsin, Arizona
  • Midwest Region, UCLA: Houston, Tennessee, Kentucky, Purdue

BYU has a tricky matchup against VCU while Ole Miss takes on a North Carolina team that shot the lights out of the gym in the First Four game against San Diego State.

Can one of these "dark horse" teams make a run? Well, UCLA and UConn have been to the Final Four within the last few years, and BYU and Ole Miss both have the potential to go on a deep run.

It should be fascinating to see if one of Katz's "dark horse" contenders makes some noise this March.
